The mystery of 65w charging.

I have gone through 5 PPS chargers(mainly from Amazon) and the charge rate I’ve seen is 36w. I’ve now made the leap to the cmf 100w charger and guess what………yep 36w. Although to be fair to the marketing people it does move up the ranks from saying rapid charging to Ultra fast charging.

Anyhow it’s seems the end result of getting to 90% charge is in the same time frame 41mins.

My conclusion, unless someone from nothing pipes up. Both 65w charging and 65w PPs chargers are either not working as advertised or PPS is implemented very oddly, or I have a phone 3 which doesn’t show charge rates over 36w.

Otherwise rest of the phone is working great and I’m still working through it’s features.

Any thoughts? Do I send nothing a charger back🤔

Same, absolutely never been able to have 65w. I don’t know why i’m not furious 😅 We have to ask directly to customer service?

Same here. I tried to charge my Phone 3 from the Aohi Future Starship 240W power bank with a charging power indicator. As a result, the charging power never exceeded 45 watts.

Using my wife’s 120W rated Xiaomi charger the best I got was 24W. Using a 65W rated ‘UGREEN’ ( the highest charging power was 35W. Both times my Phone 3 was charging from <30% up to 80%.

It begs the question: Under what situation or arrangement can the advertised charging power of 65W be reached, because so far, no one has achieved anything higher than “36W”?

Looking at USB-C standard charging voltages, 15V tops out at 3A (so 35W), and 20V tops out at 3.25A (65W), so perhaps what we actually need is a charger rated to deliver 20V, but what we’re using is limited to 15V. 3A rated charging cables are relatively chunky, so again, perhaps we also need a matched charger and cable?

You can’t accurately measure with apps, you need something like this:

Apps are usually way off, this is 99.9% accurate.

Also, you don’t get full 65W from 0% to 100%, that’s not how batteries work due to safety reasons. It will juice (close to) 65W from 0-20 or 30%, then it keeps slowly dropping until the end where it gets like 7-15W for 90% to 100%.

I’m using my old OnePlus 65w charger and it works perfectly!

I use a 65w PD charger. At a low battery level, it can maxium get to 52w, but after 3 minutes it became 36w and then when temperature reach 43°C, speed went down to 15w.

As an Andriod Phone, manufacturers always tend to overstate their charging power specifications. In particular, there is usually a peak “boost power” which lasts for about 3 minutes, and only this peak power can get close to the manufacturer’s stated figure. However, the sustained power after this initial boost usually isn’t particularly high either.

For example, I also have an OPPO X8U; the manufacturer claims it supports 100W charging, but in reality, it can only reach a maximum of 70W, and after three minutes, it will settle and maintain a level of 45W.
