PiP Screen Lock Issue

Hello Nothing team,

I’ve recently encountered an issue where PiPs for streaming platforms like Disney Hotstar and Netflix closes by itself after locking my Nothing Phone 3. (Note: I’ve allowed background and background data usage on both the apps)

I am a person who loves to “listen” to movies, therefore this is a huge issue for me.

Has anyone found a fix to this issue or is the PiP meant to close whenever we lock our phones for battery-saving purposes?

One solution is .

Web Browser Workaround: A simple and free method is to use a web browser like Chrome or Firefox. Here’s how:

Open your web browser and go to the YouTube website.

Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and select “Desktop site” or “Request desktop site.”

Find the video you want to watch and start playing it.

Exit the browser, and you should be able to continue listening from the notification bar controls.

This method effectively tricks the YouTube website into thinking it’s running on a desktop, which allows for background play.

Thank you for the solution, you’ve managed to give me what I’m looking for!

However, this feels like a temporary fix and seems counter-intuitive that I’d have to access these streaming sites (except YouTube as that app’s working just fine) just to be able to have these videos playback on my phone when these apps should already be able to continue streaming despite the phone being locked (as evidenced by the successful streaming from YouTube’s App).

Another thing I’ve noticed, the media playback controls also do not appear on my lock screen for the streaming apps despite having turned on media controls on lockscreen in my settings (but it does for any PiPs created from the desktop sites.)
