If you follow Nothing closely enough, there is a chance that you might remember this post from the official Nothing account sharing sketches of the Phone (3a) series design as a teaser. The absolute enthusiast that I had been, I could recognize some patterns in the relative alignment of the screws and thought I’d give it a shot to guess the design (at least half of it).

Turns out, I could derive this much portion of it, and that I was quite off from the actual design of the 3a series. Nonetheless, having been derived from the sketches posted by the official account, I could see my drawings being pretty much in-line with the Nothing design language and thought of refining my sketches further to make it a proper concept design, with reference to the 3a series design.

I had setup constraints that included fulfilling the extra functionality that the original glyph interface could provide in my other concept called Gastrodon. This extra functionality includes AI Agent interactions, Bass Visualization, Clock, etc. This also has two essential notification strips — one for general and one for high priority notifications.

The circular panels beside the camera module is with reference to Teenage’s initial concepts for Nothing (Picture 5&6). And coincidentally, it could be a good spot to accommodate the new Glyph Matrix that they introduced with Phone (3).

Why am I sharing it after 6 months? I had plans of making proper 3D renders for this (just like I did for the Gastrodon concept), but honestly it’s just a concept that people momentarily turn their heads to and leave, so it’s just not worth the work. It’s a fun exercise that I did for myself and my portfolio, and I do have plans to iterate on this to adopt properly to the said Glyph Matrix integration (for example, to include the capacitive touch button, or even some other better way to interact with Glyph Matrix 👀) and to implement CMF that I have in mind. But for now, I am in my final year of ME and I am engulfed in so many tasks :')
Anyways, thank you for your time.
Cheers!
