The failed tech brands thread got me nostalgic thinking about old devices I used to have and got me thinking, there’s probably some really interesting or unique stuff out there that people used to own!

Personally I used to have a Sony Walkman - not the fully digital kind you can get nowadays; not even an MP3 player, but the CD version.. in green. Lovely! I always think back to how CDs used to skip when you were in a car and went over bumps in the road.

So, what tech/device did you own that makes you feel nostalgic?

    Cassette player and recorder

I had a cassette player from the brand name Sanyo. I my earliest memory of it is going to audio shops and making mixtape of English songs and listening to them at home.

Recently, I found some old cassettes and player. It took me down the memory lane. Those days I was fan of Pink Floyd and Queen. Had numbers of mixtapes.

First English artist I heard was Michael Jackson.

I started off with my first phone being a Nokia 3310. What a brick. However, one device that really stuck to me was the Sony Ericsson K500. I think it was because I was able to download games and songs OTA… And you could also send/receive songs and games from your friends. Those were the days.

Is that enough explanation of what I am talking about ? 😛

Nostalgia about tech is always about the cassette video games. That keyboard, remote, cassette and gun. No PlayStation Xbox can match that feeling/experience.

        Atleast for me:

        Contra > PUBG

        Battle City > Cyberpunk

Duck Hunt > Call of duty

        Road Fighter > Asphalt

        Mario > Fall Guys

Pyrodox Damn that’s a big cassette player! I had this one if I recall correctly

Not sure why my parents loved getting me green tech. There’s definitely a lot of nostalgia around cassettes - so lucky you could find yours. I think mine are probably deep in storage somewhere 😄

FilipJacobson I was always jealous of the guys with Sony Ericsson phones. Especially with those weird shaped buttons in the middle, looked so cool.

arpan2308 woah that’s really cool! I’ve never actually heard of that one before, was it popular? I know my dad had a C64 and some kind of Amiga that he let me play have in my room and play for a while.

Yup sony ericsson was also cult. My brother handed down K750 to me as my first phone 😍

As adbo mentioned, that middle white joystick was unique. Scrolling using that was an experience in itself. Then there was that camera sliding cover with a dedicated camera shutter physical button 😍

adbo I had this model but in grey! Was a bit of a faff trying to change discs on the move lol

I’m gonna throw in my old Sega Megadrive (the below image isn’t mine btw) - the times of taking the cartridges out, blowing them and blowing the insert to make sure they work (not sure this actually did anything). I remember Streets of Rage and Sonic on this device. Gaming was so much simpler lol.

Hi just want to share my new sega mega drive and i know its fake and the catrges is fake but its super hard to get a good one in iraq so

Louis ☕️ Sega Megadrive is a great one! I never had one but the kids club I used to go to did. Can always remember the “SEEEGAAAA” when you turn it on 😄

You guys got me thinking of games consoles and I have a distinct memory of playing Duck Hunt on a controller like this one:

Except I don’t think I ever owned an N64 and I swear the controller plugged straight into the TV via composite i.e. the controller WAS the games console. Anyone seen anything like that?

arpan2308 Yup sony ericsson was also cult. My brother handed down K750 to me as my first phone 😍

What a beauty! 😁 I had a friend with one of those as well, that camera was a beast at the time!

Oh!! 🤤 I never had the chance to own one of these myself (had friends who owned them), but if I could get my hands on one today for a reasonable price I’d definitely pic one up!

That one looks super dope. I remember when the rewind function was broken, and you had to use a pencil or similar to rewind the tape by hand…….. What a time to be alive!

I don’t think you’ll be picking up a Sega Megadrive at a reasonable price any time soon! In fact the price will be going up over time so better pick one up now 😄

I asked my dad and this was definitely a thing.. I knew I wasn’t going crazy. Will have to and find it someday, I imagine in his garage. Though finding a TV with composite connections might be a challenge

BlackBerry communicators weilding real tactile keyboards.

Loved my BlackBerry Key2 (and the KEYone Bronze Edition, which I bought subsequently).

Was crazy excited about the Onwardmobilty 5G BlackBerry vehicle, before it came crashing down - I hope Chen gives mobile hardware another shot.

Would be great to rock a BlackBerry again.

(And yes, I would still buy/use the usual smartphone fare.)

My Nokia 2021, antenna slides out. First usable gsm portable. Used a lot of different brands but this one was my favorite back in the days. Now on OnePlus 7t pro. Still quite sufficient but waiting to get my hands on the nothing phone(1) :-)

nothing_b52 ah wow, I totally forgot about sliding antennas! I used to have a fat Motorola as a kid that I thought was a toy for many years, and I used it as such, til I realised it was an actual phone at one point 😆

My first bit of Tech was a ZX81 16Kb not for long as I received the ZX Spectrum 48k (1982)

Which i had until the ZX spectrum+2 128K came out (It had the Tape player built in.)

I Wrote a few BASIC programs but preferred playing Manic Miner, Jet Set Willy, Atic Atac and Daley Thompson Decathlon. Oh they were the days.

arpan2308 Damn, these were the golden ages of phones. I remember my colleague in high school had one of these phones and I was amazed by it.

I had a Motorola V360 back then which was also really cool but not really good for taking pictures.

Which I later changed to a Nokia 6234, which was another amazing phone. My colleagues now always called me out with them just to play music on my Nokia, because it was the loudest phone in class having dual speakers.

What I liked about that period was that everyone had a different style based on his phone, not like today, when 99% of phones are all the same. But I hope nothing phone (1) will change this.

I want to mention a few other cool phones my friends had back then and which I was amazed by. I wonder how many of you remember them or had them. Nokia 3660, Nokia 5700, Nokia N95, Sony Ericsson W-series, LG Chocolate, LG Arena, LG KU970, Motorola Razr-series. Remember these or any other “cool” phone from this period?

So I just came across this recently when helping my mum clear out!

Was super excited to give it a whirl and play LBP, one of my favourite ever games. Unfortunately it’s not charging at all, just blinking an orange LED at me. Limited research says the battery is probably completely dead. I’ve been half tempted to buy a new battery and replace it but not sure it’s worth it. Anyone else still got a PSP, or better yet, Nintendo DS?!

Still have my Nintendo DS, but the first thing it came to my mind is this

My best friend just found this treasure in his parent house last week.
                        The memories 😮

arpan2308 good times with Sony Ericsson - in London way back when - They even opened their flagship wear I worked and would hold fan events. I’ve got several photos good chance to play with the new phones, etc.
