When can we expect to get the stable OS 4.0?

I've been seeing posts over the last few weeks about different phones getting the beta version of 4.0 and I was wondering if there's an appropriate date when we can look forward to getting the final stable version? Will it be tied in with getting Android 16 which I saw is meant to come early 2026? I understand an exact time is difficult to say, but I wondered if there was an expectation for it?

Android 16 is already out, yet Nothing OS 4.0 is essentially based on Android 16. There is no clear date yet, typically those beta tests run for about two months before the first public release builds are being rolled out - but it always depends on how the beta builds are coming along.

Somewhere in December at my guess. CMF's are gonna get the stable version in December, if I remember the post here of course

MarkG13 Yes, more patience is needed. It also seems OS 4.0 still is not feature complete yet, as Carl Pei briefly mentioned in Nothing's latest video. So I am more leaning towards a public release in December rather than this month already.

Coldpaw Yes it's better for everyone to wait until it's ready for release to save bad publicity if it was rushed out with bugs

I wish, we had a clock face which is in the same style as the widgets. Meaning, it should have a white, squared background with rounded corners to make it more cohesive.

People want asthetics over features… which is wrong. A grass UI and fancier clocks does not provide any performance improvements.

The lack of basic features in Nothing OS is quite disturbing, considering that 99% of Android phones have a lot more USEFUL features that Nothing.

If they are adding ads and bloatware, like other android phones, might as well go all in and add the missing features…

Well, for me the Phone 3a provides everything I need in a Phone. That's why I wish for UI enhancements.

I was going to say exactly the same thing. I just upgraded from 2a to 3, and I am extremely happy 😄

I don't like that brands like Samsung include so many "features" that are forced down our throats without us really wanting or needing them.

Nothing puts in features they themselves find useful and innovative, and their users on the beta versions of the Nothing OS find useful. Not too much, not too little. Especially when it is all customizable.

That gets respect from me and is much more important than the eye candy

That said, this OS (3) looks fantastic and while I really want to upgrade, I can wait for the next one if it means it will be more stable and have less bugs.

Besides the battery I am very much enjoying it.

So you think a tic tac toe widget is a useful feature?

Even the features that it already has can be improved (better battery management for one).

CPU and modem throttle control (phone gets hot using hotspot, then it becomes useless for a while).

Making the 4 OS framework work better with android 16 so that apps (like WhatsApp) don't drain battery and raise the temperature that much during a videocall.

Even in the latest Beta update, the search bar in settings didn't work and the workaround was uninstalling the Google protective services updates.

If you take time and look around here in the community, you'll find lots of issues users are having.

They're really pushing for AI but so far we've only seen Playground widgets. I think it'll be at least another month of AI features before they can start rolling out stable.
