I've been observing the company's activities for quite some time now, and I wanted to share some thoughts on this update.
The post detailing the software structure and development process is genuinely an interesting read—it's a great behind-the-scenes peek. However, the final summary regarding the stable release date for Nothing OS 4.0 (NOS 4.0), concluding with just the 👀 emoji, feels a little unserious at this level of communication between the team and the community.
I suspect a large portion of people joined the beta program for the simple reason of getting the "newer" software. But I'm confident that the remaining part is here to provide crucial feedback. That feedback, first and foremost, is to eliminate bugs (of which there is a huge amount—I've personally filed several reports for individual functions as my device has become exceptionally unstable).
I fully expected instability when joining the beta. But as someone who personally launched a product to market and invested close to €1 million into my own project (I don't have your budgets!), I honestly feel I did it much better. The companies I collaborate with, who are testing my product, not only report what needs improvement, but in return, they receive feedback on:
When that specific issue will be fixed.
My clear plan/vision for future improvements.
I achieve this because I have a strict, presented schedule that I adhere to very precisely. And I do this only because, first, I need to recoup the invested funds, and second, I want to make a healthy profit!
In Nothing's case, I only see this working one way. It looks like the consumer isn't the primary focus—their money is. I guarantee this is a very short-sighted approach and demonstrates a lack of clear, long-term strategy.
In my opinion, the Nothing company today seems focused on maximizing its valuation for the purpose of a sale or acquisition, rather than prioritizing genuine organic development and nurturing its community. It's a real shame to see.
Thanks for the insight, but please, could we have a little more clarity on the future?
