AirDrop from iPhone or other Apple devices is now compatible with Android!

Google has just announced that starting from yesterday, Quick Share will now support the seamless experience of sharing files, videos and pictures via Apple’s AirDrop system. It works both ways and requires no apps at all. It only works currently on Pixel 10 series, but a Quick Share system update should allow this feature on all compatible Android devices on newer versions! This will be coming soon.

I hope they don’t release it on the Phone (3) first, then the (3a), then the (2), and so on in stages. I hope it’s released to all phones at the same time. I will literally quit on Nothing if they decide to make it exclusive to their new phones. I hope they at least include it for the Phone (2) as the final update.

Quick share is by google (I think) and is already in all the android phones as far as I know.
Air Drop on the other hand is from apple and its their proprietary software and won’t be available to other phones apart from that phones runs IOS

I still don’t know what you mean by “released to all phones at the same time” its there…. Right there when you click share on almost any part of the phone and from quick tile menu

ZenithFr I think OP is talking about the cross-platform compatibility which has been in the news a while ago, which makes Android’s Quick Share work with Apple’s Airdrop. So you could seamless transfer files between an Android and iPhone.

This feature will be released by Google and nothing cannot restrict it to only flagships. All android devices will get this eventually.

The feature op is talking about is Android to Ios transfer and vice versa.

Any idea when airdrop support is coming to Nothing phones? Nothing was the first brand to react to it when Google first announced it but oppo is getting it this month and I think Honor will get it too.

JonishAdhikari I believe it might come in NOS 4.1 later this month or next month, as would need Nothing to add some functionality for it to work with Nothing Phones, as the hardware needs to recognise AirDrop as a compatible codec.

@Carl So will this be for OS 5.0 only since I saw in the 5.0 announcement video that it includes cross-platform quickshare, I hope you at least bring that feature to Nothing Phone (2), it will be a bummer to let it be exclusive to OS 5.0 and not include 4.X

Apple has already done it.

AirDrop now communicates with Quick Share, but only on devices that have the Quick Share extension enabled for this purpose.

Pixel phones and iPhones can exchange files in both directions, while Nothing and other brands still cannot do it. (…but it’s not Apple’s fault)
