Google apps are enough. Why do you want another calculator app or gallery app. This is the problem it creates. Now companies like Nothing, Oneplus, Samsung have to create their own versions of the same app you already got from Google. The difference is Google updates their app and companies like Nothing, OnePlus don’t update after some time. After a few OS upgrades, your phone will be having an older version of the app while the newer phone models of these companies will have the latest version of the app. And they don’t even bother to update their own system apps. Then also people will be complaining why aren’t these companies not updating their system apps for older phones. That’s why sticking to Google apps are better. that’s why stock Android is better. I have a Nothing Phone 2. Previous Pixel Owner. My dad has OnePlus. I can tell you right now. Telling companies to make their own version of system apps is a bad idea. They’ll be lazy and never update it for older phones whereas Google apps will be always the latest on any phone. OnePlus was shit when it came to their Oxygen OS. Same with Samsung. Duplicate apps.. Google photos and Gallery app, files by Google and File manager by OnePlus. Well guess what OnePlus never updates these apps. I think Carl Pei already knows the duplicate apps situation. I don’t think he’s gonna make a nothing gallery app or calculator app. And that is a good thing. Whatever Nothing is doing now is literally perfect. Perfect amount of their apps that doesn’t create situation of duplicate app. I hope Nothing keeps it like this. UI experience is clean and simple.

If you’re going to be committed to the whole design philosophy. You gotta make it reach to every phone you ever created. For example Nothing themed apps just like how Google apps update even on their old phones. Else stick with what you’re doing right now. And people stop asking for a Gallery app. It will be start of duplicate apps. If you want a gallery app that much, it should atleast have Google photos and iCloud integration. Without it, it’s so pointless. Don’t turn this company into Samsung and OnePlus with their boat load of duplicate apps. Thank you.

    While I agree with you that the Google apps are enough for me, clearly Nothing styled apps are in demand based on the amount of posts we see about them, whether it’s people just asking for them or even making their own concepts and renders.

    It’s for this reason I think Nothing should release their own apps in the Nothing design language; however, they should be hosted on the Play Store as an optional download rather than pre-installed on the OS.

    Nothing already hosts 8 apps on the Play Store, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t go this route with any further apps they release.

    ETA: you mentioned Carl likely not creating a gallery app, but there have already been hints about Nothing creating more apps from Carl’s X posts and workshops about Nothing styled apps hosted on Discord.

      Yeah I agree with you on the “app on the Play Store instead of pre-installed with the OS” part. That’s a good start that I saw on Nothing OS 2.5. Good job to the team. We gotta defragment the OS as much as we can. It will be appreciated. Thank you.

      And they do get updated regularly.

      N at this stage should focus on removing glitches/bugs, refining the camera, speakers, display panel refresh rate/brightness/screen content balance - & further refining the OS.

        I kinda agree with you… it’s an unpopular opinion in the nothing community, tho. Most community member would prefer having a whole suit of apps made by Nothing.

        Maybe, some systems apps like the calculator or the clock could be great but other than that, google apps are enough for most use case. Better focusing on polishing the OS to be honest.

          I partially agree. Some apps, like Dialer, Contacts, and SMS, must be suitable for a custom ROM. And it’s not hard to update the OEM app once a quarter. The gallary and calculator are not needed. But you can provide a skin that is suitable for the theme. The home screen of the phone is monochrome, but none of the apps have the same look, except for weather. So I request that the team bring their own custom dialer, contact, and SMS app.

          I don’t mind nothing apps but to be fair one default nothing app where you can select optional apps to install or redirect to play store of specific app. But i’m person who likes less apps on the phone than too many apps. That’s just asking for problems and too much data/bandwidth usage. In fairness this nothing phone 2 is fastest phone ive ever had. Lets hope we keep this way in future.

          I do use it too. Hate the backup mechanism. Either you backup everything automatic instantly or you turn off the backup.. Rest is just like any other gallery app. Although the main screen UI could be better like Samsung. Now it’s a bunch of complicated layouts & grouping. It’s really stressful.

          You can’t download multiple photos/albums. After editing you have to ‘save as a copy’ & can’t replace the original. You click free up space accidentally & boom! All your photos are gone from the file browser. Oh god.. I HATE GOOGLE PHOTOS EVEN MORE NOW!!

          So please NOTHING! We need a Gallery app!!

              I’m about to say something weird but I think it would be great to do an (optional) Nothing theme for existing Google apps.

              I don’t know if this is a possible thing but it’s a great idea! I often admire the Nothing design language in the system but then Gapps ruin the “atmosphere”.

              Just imagine Google’s calculator or dialer with a Nothing design skin: here the features of Google apps and the stunning design of Nothing come together to create the ultimate, cohesive user experience.

                  This is exactly Why I believe in the vision of Nothing. Make system Apps purely based on the Nothing design language. Invest highly on the software side of it to make it seamless and deliver the experience so the users don’t look elsewhere. Kind of like Steve Jobs 2.0

                  I think have the people choose for themselves. More option means they can have there own set of style. In my opinion google gallery apps sms and dialer is really terible im not really used to it. It would be awesome if nothing have there own set of apps.. im hoping when the time comes😊

                  Partially Agree on this argument Google Apps vs Native App.

                  Firstly: I think we need some native Apps like gallary app. Why? because that could be more optimized for our devices. Google create app which is based on the generic Android platform not optimized for any perticular platform.

                  Secondly: On the other hand Apps like calculator, calenders, files. We actually don’t need this. Because those are not need that much optimization.

                  Lastly : Nothing Apps are Hosted on play Store, so I don’t think there will be any problem regarding further updates.
