After 1 year and 3 months of using Nothing OS, I am finally leaving this brand for better or for worse. The main takeaway I have gathered from using my CMF phone 1 is that this OS is NOT for the tech enthusiasts and I advise anybody who is considering on buying any phone from Nothing is that:
If you are fine with black and white icons for the foreeable future of your time using the nothing phone then go for it but please if your buying into NothingOS purely because of its monotone design and ‘uniqueness’ you are heavily mistaken.
Over my year of using NothingOS , I have grown sick and tired of the black and white icons with no option to change or purely have a decent experience customising it. Every time I reshuffle apps, it doesn’t feel enjoyable, every feature feels good to have for a short period of time but gets tiring after seeing the same grey, black, red, white, icons everywhere. Its gotten so bad to the point where i just don’t have a colourful wallpaper cause with the black and white icons, it just looks ugly. I honestly miss the days of NothingOS 2.5 where you could coulour the icon files and make a wallpaper at least matching to a degree and put some effort into it. NothingOS has really just became a glorified dumbphone with no meaning to it. Plus there is no NFC by which in UK standards is just not convenient.
The real break in the camels back was the introduction of Lock glimpse which totally shattered the brand vision that I was still hoping they would have at least a shred of maintaining, but no.
Although on a lighter note, NothingOS has made me make the leap to my next phone which also andriod and was the perfect start for me to learn what i’ve missed since my first andriod tablet with Andriod 5.1. I’ll stay with Andriod for the forseeable future. My next phone will be the redmagic 11 pro in 2 weeks from now.
