Glyph Essential Notification - Help

I recently switched from an iPhone and am absolutely amazed by the Nothing Phone 3 – the Glyph feature is one of the reasons why I decided to buy the NP3. It would be a real disappointment if it doesn’t work as advertised.

So here is how I describe my problem now

I am not the first person to describe problems with Essential Notifications. In my case, only ONE rule works (Missed Calls in App Phone). It does not matter whether the rule is displayed at the top or bottom of the list.

The other rules appear to be set up correctly, as the results of the rule are displayed correctly in the overview, as can be seen in the screenshots. E.g. Incoming calls from XY or Incoming signal message from XY. So I have apparently set everything up correctly.

For incoming calls, only the wiggling telephone handset is displayed in the glyph matrix. However, specific glyphs should be displayed for selected contacts. For missed calls, the envelope I’ve set is displayed correctly.

The rule does not seem to be implemented for calls, alarms and text messages.

Changing the Flip to Glyph settings does not change anything. Switching ringtones to Generative works, but it also ignores my essential rules.

Is there another setting I need to adjust to make it work, or is it really a bug?

jakob_eKsSTtelGu The first established rule based on their creation date has the highest priority over others. If this is the rule that already existed in the device then this is the oldest rule and the one with the highest priority. Try to delete all rules and then create first the more specific one i.e. my wife messaged me on WhatsApp then the more generic one i.e. everyone else messaging me on WhatsApp

Hey georgios1, thanks for your quick reply. I’ve already tried that. Delete all rules and create just one very specific. There are two very specific conditions: the name was spelled exactly as it appears in the address book, and the telephone number. See the settings in the screenshots. Why is the result of the rule displayed in the preview but not executed?

Moreover, I can see you have a rule that refers to the same application and the same contact twice. I would prefer to create simple rules. Each rule does one thing at a time

I am experiencing the exact same situation. This behavior only began after I updated to OS 4, the Glyph interface appears to be overriding my specific rules and defaulting to general notification settings. I’ve read through the forums and noticed that the standard advice from the technical team is to reset the phone, but I am looking for a solution that doesn’t involve a factory reset.

You mean I should only enter one condition? But it doesn’t matter whether I enter only the telephone number or the name of the contact or both as a condition. The rule for incoming calls is not applied.

I just did another test. When I change the APP channel from incoming call to missed call, the Glyph Matrix displays the contact’s missed call correctly. I suspect that the app channels are not all working properly.

As soon as I create a second rule (with a different contact), the first one (mentioned above) no longer works.

It can’t be that difficult. What also surprises me is that the rule results are displayed correctly in the preview, but nothing happens.

Ok, let’s make it more clear then. I have set up 2 rules. The first rule is for phone calls from “WhoIsThis Me” and the second rule is for phone calls from “WhoIsThis2 Me2”

I call from the one number then I get the expected icon

Then I clear the notification. Then I call from the other number then I get the other expected icon, all good

Is this similar to your use case because I still don’t understand your exact use case 😉

The clear goal is to display a specific symbol for incoming calls from a certain person or group of people.

Yes, that looks exactly how I would like it to be. In your example, does the Glyph Matrix display the symbol while the caller is calling or only afterwards when the call is missed?

I copied your rule settings exactly, but during the call, only the telephone handset is still displayed, and only afterwards does my specific symbol appear.

I have changed my system language to English, which makes it easier.

jakob_eKsSTtelGu No, the expected icon is displayed only afterwards when the call is essentially missed. During the call it is always the phone icon displaying no matter who is calling.

I understand now that your expectation would be that the expected icon shows up during the call too, right? I am not sure how this was working before the OS4.0 update

Correct, it should appear during the call or in a WhatsApp message to the person. That’s the fun part about Glyph Matrix. And if I can set the option, why isn’t it working? Maybe it’s a bug after all?!

Regarding a telephone call, it is a bug only if it was working before the update and it is not working anymore. The icons looks good after the call is missed so one has to compare what was going on while the call was ongoing before OS4.0

Do you have the same issue with WhatsApp?

The effect is the same for WhatsApp calls. For incoming calls = handset // for missed calls = specific glyph symbol.

I can’t say how it was before Nothing OS4.0, as I’ve only had the NP3 for a week.

But why do I even have the option to select the ‘incoming call’ app channel if it doesn’t work? It doesn’t make sense.
