Nothing Phone (Compact) — Concept

PREET AJMERI

This concept focuses on a more refined and commercial interpretation of Nothing’s design language, emphasizing simplicity, balance, and everyday usability.

The device adopts a smaller, more comfortable form factor (approx. 14 × 7 cm) to improve ergonomics and one-hand use. A minimal dual-camera setup is positioned to feel calm and integrated rather than visually dominant.

Unlike my earlier, more expressive concept, this design intentionally moves towards a quieter aesthetic, reducing visual noise while preserving Nothing’s recognizable industrial character. The back layout is structured and clean, prioritizing proportion, clarity, and manufacturability.

This hand-drawn sketch represents an early-stage product study, exploring how Nothing’s identity could translate into a simpler, consumer-friendly device.

I really like this design! I like how you went for a minimalist look while also making it not look like the 3a lite. I would be willing to buy this - that is if the cameras can hold to their own. Coming from a Pixel 5 to Nothing Phone 2a, I miss the compact size. But MAN, Nothing OS is so unique!

SeanLinvill Thank you, that really means a lot! The idea was to keep it minimal without overlapping too much with existing designs. Compact size was a big focus here, especially for people who miss smaller phones. And yes — Nothing OS really does elevate the whole experience.

Love this idea, I’m still holding out for a smaller Nothing Phone 🤞… My feedback on the design is: The screws in all four corners make too much sense, for Nothing designers, a portion of the functional screws would either be covered up by plastic textured plates, or moved to be asymmetrical with each corner.

Dvance Thank you, that’s a great point. The four visible screws were meant to communicate functionality and structure, but I agree that introducing asymmetry or partially covering some of them could align even better with Nothing’s design language. That’s a really interesting direction to explore.

In my opinion, I think nothing would like to keep the cameras at the corner. They’ve done vertical with 3a Lite and CMF phones, I think this one could use a horizontal layout like Pixel a series.

At one side this really looks like Xiaomi, at the other side I see LG waving to me hehe. Because they had some specific things to its phones like a power button on the back or even with volume buttons. I have two LG’s in my collection.

Anyway this looks good, I’d wish to see the real concept of it. And, to be honest, many people with to have at last sub-flagship with this small size. This is why, maybe, an extra few glyphs would be a good deal. Just a thought.

I’m a long-time Sony compact phone user, and currently using a Zenfone 9.
I’ve been hoping for a true compact flagship phone for years now, but honestly, there’s basically nothing left in the market.

I’m even considering the Nothing Phone (3), not because it’s what I want, but because there aren’t many real alternatives anymore.

If this concept became a compact mid- to high-end Nothing phone, I’d buy it without hesitation. Size and usability matter more to me than chasing ever-bigger specs.

My personal wishlist for a compact Nothing phone would be:

A large main camera sensor, similar to Zenfone 9, with proper RAW support
Slightly thicker body if it means a much bigger battery
Proper water resistance
A colour-accurate display
Glyph lights or a matrix-style approach — either is fine
AI features are nice to have, but not a deal-breaker
(however, if AI significantly hurts battery life, that is a deal-breaker)

Compact phones don’t need to be compromises — they just need to be designed with intent.

You’ve captured the exact philosophy behind the concept: compact phones shouldn’t feel like compromises. Size, usability, and intent-first design matter more than chasing specs for the sake of it.

I completely agree with the idea of a slightly thicker body for better battery life, a larger main sensor, and proper durability. A compact Nothing phone designed this way could genuinely fill a gap that no brand is addressing seriously right now.

Your point about AI vs battery life is especially valid — usefulness should never come at the cost of everyday reliability.
