I’m writing as a user of the Nothing Phone 3a to suggest an important usability improvement related to critical battery behavior.
Currently, when the device reaches 1% battery, it often powers off almost immediately, leaving little to no time for the user to respond. This can interrupt ongoing tasks, calls, or important processes without warning.
I’d like to propose a feature enhancement:
Introduce a “Critical Battery Grace Period” at 1%, where:
- A persistent, high-priority notification or overlay is displayed
- Duration: ~30–60 seconds before shutdown
- Optional haptic/vibration alert for visibility
- Temporary restriction of background processes to preserve remaining power
This behavior is implemented (in varying forms) across several Android OEM systems and significantly improves user experience by preventing abrupt shutdowns.
From a system perspective, this could be handled by:
- Reserving a minimal power buffer at 1%
- Triggering a foreground system UI alert
- Delaying automatic shutdown unless voltage drops below a safe threshold
This would align well with Nothing OS’s focus on thoughtful UX and practical design.
I strongly believe this small addition would have a meaningful impact on day-to-day usability.
Thanks for your time and for building such a refined Android experience.
