Volume buttons changing Accessibility volume instead of media volume - help

Hi everyone,

I’ve been facing a strange issue on my Nothing Phone 3a recently and wanted to check if anyone else is experiencing the same.

Whenever I try to adjust the volume using the physical volume buttons, it keeps changing the Accessibility volume instead of the main media or system volume. This happens even when I’m not actively using any accessibility feature, and I can’t find a clear option under Sound or Accessibility settings to change this behavior back to normal.

I also tried reporting this via the feedback option, but I’m unable to properly select the relevant category for this issue.

Has anyone else faced this problem?

Is this a known bug or a recent update-related issue?
Any workaround or setting I might be missing?

I had a similar issue for a few days and just fixed it. I changed “aptx” codec to high resolution (instead of auto) and this fixed it. It also brought up two sliders when the volume buttons was pressed, whereas before it had switched to one just with the person icon. Hope it helps you too!

EDIT: doesn’t work for all apps. Just tried Pokémon TCG and it went to a single slider bar, but on Spotify it brought up the media (musical note) icon.

LewisBullock Thank you for the information. But I am not able to find the “aptx” codec option, if possible can you please share a screenshot of where to find this setting or an elaborated description would also work. As you mentioned, for me as well it works good on Spotify but not on other applications. Do let me know if you find any other solution for the same.

It is under connected devices > connection preferences > qualcomm aptx (at the bottom)

But it didn’t do anything for me

Kethel Thank you! I did the settings accordingly, and now it seems to work for a few apps, but not all. I think you are facing the same issue. Most probably this is a bug within OS. The thing is, I am not able to report the bug as well, as it asks for the category selection, and doesn’t give any option to select from…

As we can see in the attached Snips, the Volume button is not working to increase the media Volume, I have to expand it and then can increase media Volume either in any app or outside of app.

Please suggest the fix for it.
