I recently got the opportunity to be part of the Essential Apps Early Beta, and it turned into a really meaningful creative journey. I’m genuinely thankful to the Nothing team for creating a space where creators can explore ideas, experiment freely, and build something real from the ground up. Now, let me tell you how I created GameDot Daily!
Phase 1 : The Idea

Gaming has always been a constant part of my life. Characters, quotes, and moments from games tend to stay with you long after the screen turns off, and that emotion is what sparked this project.
The intention wasn’t just to make something cool, it was to create something personal that could live naturally on the homescreen every day. From the beginning, the goal was clear. Build something of my own that still feels like it truly belongs within the Nothing ecosystem, not something that looks separate or out of place.
Phase 2 : The Design

Once the purpose felt grounded, the design had to match that feeling. Dot-matrix character art, calm spacing, restrained contrast, and breathing typography shaped the visual language.
Every decision focused on harmony, making sure the experience feels consistent with other Nothing widgets so that it blends in naturally rather than demanding attention.
Phase 3 : The Build

This is where the concept became real. Using Essential Builder, the core AI tool. I was able to translate ideas into working behavior much faster while still shaping every detail manually.
Date-based character rotation, and the overall logic all came together here. Like with any beta experience, there were a few ups and downs along the way, but the team’s support was always quick, friendly, and genuinely helpful which helped in turning challenges into smooth progress.
Phase 4 : The Polish

A working creation isn’t the same as a finished one. This phase focused on refinement, adjusting spacing by pixels, balancing typography weight, and most importantly ensuring the widget feels right in both dark and light themes.
That dual-theme harmony was essential. No matter how a user keeps their device, the experience needed to feel calm, readable, and naturally integrated.
Phase 5 : The Publish

Seeing it finally live was… surprisingly quiet.
Not a huge dramatic moment. Just a calm realization that something which started as a personal thought had become real. Something people could actually see every day. Something that is loved by both Gamers & Nothing Enthusiasts.
This was originally meant to be a full video like the previous one too… but I ran out of time, so this written journey had to step in and do the talking instead.
Essential Apps Beta is now open so check it out and once again thanks to Nothing for providing this platform!
