Hi everyone,
I recently moved from iPhone to a Nothing Phone (3a) about 3 weeks ago, and honestly? The transition has been harder than expected. (I love the screen, look and feel)
The main frustration is that every guide, video, or Reddit thread recommends different apps and workflows, but Android varies wildly between manufacturers - Samsung works differently from Pixel, which works differently from Nothing OS. It’s overwhelming.
My setup: I still use AirPods, MacBook, iPad, and Apple HomeKit devices. Keeping these while switching to Android adds another layer of complexity that most guides ignore.
Why I’m posting:
I’m creating a comprehensive guide specifically for people moving from iPhone to Nothing OS (or clean Android) who want to keep some Apple devices/functionality. Think of it as “best of both worlds” without the vendor lock-in.
For those who’ve made the switch:
What was your biggest struggle? (messaging, photos, AirPods, HomeKit, etc.)
Which apps became essential? Especially for:
Replacing AirDrop (Blip, LocalSend?)
AirPods battery/controls on Android
iCloud sync (calendar, contacts, photos)
HomeKit control
Notes/tasks that work on both ecosystems
What Apple functionality do you miss most? And did you find a replacement?
Any “I wish I knew before” tips?
Specific Apple things I’m trying to solve:
iMessage deregistration nightmares
AirPods automatic switching (spoiler: doesn’t work, manual only, a guide is helpful)
iCloud Photos → Google Photos without duplicates
Using AirTags from Android (impossible? alternatives?)
Handoff/Continuity replacements
Would love to hear your experiences - good and bad. I’ll compile everything into a structured guide and share it back here.
Thanks!
