grepGander I appreciate the wishes, the S26 Ultra will definitely serve me well. But let’s be real about the ‘talented kid’ analogy.
Nothing isn’t a broke indie startup in a garage. It’s a multi-million dollar company backed by heavy tech investors and run by Carl Pei, the guy who co-founded OnePlus. If a brand steps into the ring and charges a premium $799 price tag, they are choosing to fight the heavyweights. You don’t get to ask for a pity pass from customers while taking their flagship-level money.
And please, stop claiming the Phone (3) is better in everything. In several core areas, it is an objective downgrade from my older Phone (2):
The Display: Phone (2) uses a premium, highly energy-efficient LTPO matrix (1-120Hz). Phone (3) cuts corners with a cheaper LTPS panel.
Screen Protection: Phone (2) has premium Gorilla Glass, while Phone (3) downgraded to Gorilla Glass 7i — a budget glass explicitly designed by Corning for low-end, mid-range devices.
Charging Tech: Phone (2) fully supports convenient wireless charging, which Nothing completely stripped away from the Phone (3) to save a few bucks.
Releasing a newer, more expensive phone that is objectively worse than its predecessor in display tech, build materials, and basic premium features is a textbook anti-consumer move.
If you’re happy giving a pass to a company that charges premium prices for mid-range compromises, that’s on you. I’m moving to a brand that actually plays in the heavyweight division it claims to be in.
