I am planning to buy the Nothing Phone (4a), Blue, 12GB RAM, 256GB.

So I want honest opinions from real users before I spend my money.

I am not one of those people who change phones every year for fun. I have been using my Realme 5 Pro for 7 years straight. So when I buy a phone, I buy it for long-term use.

That’s why I want real advice from actual users, not just YouTube hype and paid reviews.

I genuinely like Nothing as a brand. Been following them from day 1. They are one of the very few brands that make tech feel fun and different. So yes, I do like the brand.

But I still want to think like a customer first and not like a fan.

So please be honest and tell me straight.

Things I really want to know:

How is the phone in long-term use?
Will it still feel smooth after 1 or 2 years?
How is Nothing OS in daily use?
Is it stable and clean, or are there random bugs and issues?
How is the customer service and support?
Especially in India.
If something goes wrong, is the service actually good?
How is the battery in real use?
And more importantly, how does it hold up after months or a year?
How is the build quality?
Any issues after long use?
Is the phone really worth the money from a practical user point of view?

And one more big thing for me is the CAMERA.

I click photos all the time, everywhere.
I also shoot videos a lot.

So the camera is not some side thing for me.
It matters a lot.

Basically, I want a phone where I can trust the camera every time I open it.

Now my biggest concern:

Nothing is only promising 3 years of Android updates.

For someone like me who has used a phone for many years, this is the one thing making me think twice.

So I want real opinions on this, too.

Is this phone a smart long-term buy for someone like me?

If you are using any Nothing phone, especially newer ones, please tell me honestly.

Good things, bad things, annoying things, hidden issues, anything.

Please don’t sugarcoat it because if I buy this phone, I’ll be using it for years.

CHINMAY-HEGDE i still use realme 5 pro…it’s my secondary/backup phone… i bought cmf ph1 in Christmas 2025… great phone,, nothing os is just clean and smooth…

Nothing is very consistent about bimonthly updates… cmf ph1 got even better than out of the box with updates….

Camera is bit controversial point in nothing phones… photos are not consistent… nothing improved camera in 4a series… you can refer some yt review about that…some also provide google drive links with photos for better understanding…

Hi, Dude the phone is a great pick but you have mentioned that you have used your old realme for 7 years. The Phone (4a) Base only gives you 3 years of software support and will get security updates until 2032 but after 3 years which might be 2029 you will stop getting features. If you want more software support but in nothing go for the phone (3) as it has 5 years of software support and 7 years of security updates. But if you are fine with that then get the (4a) it is fast and smooth enough for an average user. Also NothingOS is fire dude just that nothing started to bloat which comes disabled by default and some people are getting 10hrs of battery life in light use. The camera is also fine but if you want the best nothing camera go for the phone (4a) pro. it will give a better performance overall.

Rishik Iyyappan Thanks, man for the Honest talk!! Yes, the 3 years of O/S updates are the only issue I feel. No worries. I will get it> The Phone is really good for the price. Yesterday I went to a retail shop & saw the phone and everything. The experience was crazzy good. The smoothness and the O/S mannn, it’s really very good. WILL GET THIS GUY (4a). And BTW, should I get it right now, or wait for the sale on Flipkart ??

CHINMAY-HEGDE Good question. I would see if there is a Flipkart mobile bonanza which from April 15-22 as per google. and maybe get it which may get you off ₹500 - ₹3500 or higher. If you need it now then get it also amazon started to sell the 4a’s check the price there as well.

seturbo as a real nothing user I haven’t had any issues, wireless charging is a downside I agree but is it actually aint gonna help with anything. The battery backup is already good and you can just use wired charging. Yes, the camera is bulky but if you have large hands to notice the camera bulk and the bulk is in the top half of the phone so you won’t notice it at all. also, Is the nothing service centre rly that bad??

JP Yepp, I have been seeing so many YouTube videos. It does seem like a very well-optimised phone in all aspects. And as for me, the camera does look very good for someone who has been using the Realme 5 Pro. This purchase does look like a very big upgrade for me. Let’s see mann. I am really excited to get a Nothing Phone 4a. Thanks for the comment!

In terms of customer support, you’ll always hear mixed reports. I have read some really, really bad experiences especially from fellow Indian users here on the Nothing Community from the local service centers.

Here in Europe we don’t have any local Nothing service centers and have to send in our devices when something goes wrong. The experiences here also seem to be rather mixed, some are positive, some are bad. Just recently I read about a person who wanted to do a simple battery swap on his NP2a - a phone which now is just around two years old. He gave up on the Nothing support because they simply have been unable to offer him a simple repair quote. So he went to independent repair shops and hit the next wall:

Not a single one was touching Nothing phones, because availability of spare parts is seemingly poor overall. An issue which keeps going since a while. That’s really frustrating, now he is sitting with a two year old phone and can’t get his battery replaced, which is pretty much the most basic and common maintenance job for every single smartphone. Needless to say the 2a was likely his last Nothing product.

Personally I love the phones, but the long term repair support and lack of parts is really bothering me. If Nothing can’r even replace a battery after two or three years, what good are six or seven years of security updates? Also the gatekeeping of spare parts seems counteracting their environmental goals.

My Nothing Phone (2) is still going strong and smooth after almost two years of use. I haven’t noticed it slowing down at all. However speaking of long term support again, I think the OS 4.0 update for that particular phone was a complete disappointment. Considering this is the last major update for a semi-flagship phone, they could have at least improved the inconsistent and often criticized image processing. But they didn’t do it. So I wonder how the Nothing Phone (3) will be treated in the long run, if they actually care about continueous improvements or are just doing the bare minimum to fulfill their update policies.

Hi, I’ve had the 4a since it’s general release. It’s faster than my old Phone 1. I don’t like the bulky camera on the front which I’m my opinion makes it cumbersome. The lack of wireless charging is the deal breaker for me. The customer support has been laughable. I’ve had to send IMEI details, order number, pictures of the phone and most stupidly a video of me packing it up! All this to be given an RMA so I can fill in all the same info again and upload a “pic” of the “PDF” they sent. I await the review request on trust pilot. I have returned to my old phone 1. They really do not want anyone returning their product.

I have to say that the nothing brand has proven to be reliable and has never let me down. The 4a is classed as a “Cheap” phone and should be given the usual caution. I may return to the brand when they bring out a less “Cheap” model.

Rishik Iyyappan there are always nothing phones listings on Amazon but those are not official listing…. You should confirm if amazon is official seller or not through nothing support…

Phone 3 and Samsung ultra series devices were being sold for almost/ less than half price on amazon and those devices are pre activated/used devices…

I suggest OP to stick with Flipkart for now… don’t get scammed for some discounts…
