Hi everyone,

I’m using the Nothing Phone(3) and I’ve noticed something unusual. Whenever I place my hand near the proximity sensor (top of the screen), the display turns off immediately—even when I’m not on a call.

This also happens all times while using the any app or just holding the phone normally.

Is this expected behavior (like pocket mode or sensor feature), or could it be a bug or calibration issue?

I’ve already tried basic troubleshooting like cleaning the sensor area and restarting the phone, but the issue still persists. The packet mode in Settings also Offed.

It annoying while playing games

Would appreciate if anyone else has faced this or can suggest a fix.

SRIKANTHN_m9qt23o0lr Hey friend, this doesn’t happen to me, sometimes a warning appears to remove objects that cover the area but nothing more than that… I suggest you contact technical support.

SRIKANTHN_m9qt23o0lr I am using the NP3 now since release as my daily driver and never noticed such an issue, so it’s unlikely this is a general bug which affects all devices.

Unfortunately I am also at a loss at what to do with troubleshooting, because as you said such a behaviour should only happen when you are on a call, not for regular use or gaming.

Do you have any apps installed which could possibly interfere with call functions / proximity sensor?

The fastest method for getting a better idea whats going on IMHO would be the classic factory reset: Do it, but don’t apply the backup right away but rather see if the proximity sensor works as expected. If it does, you can start downloading your apps again and keep an eye on the sensor’s behaviour.

Coldpaw There is no need to reset the system, you can also just go to '‘safe mode’', By long pressing the power off/recovery icon in the power off menu
