Hello to all! Hope everyone is doing well.
So it has been a while with my new (4a) Pro, and let me just say I am very impressed. Got back from a vacation and I figured a review on the phone is due. So today is that day.
Overview
Setting this phone up was a breeze. I got a bit too eager to use my phone, so I ended up setting it up with lout having to transfer everything. However, resetting the phone to start over wasn’t too complicated and I was able to have everything properly transferred from my text messages to my photo. Everything is already on Google Photos, so there wasn’t too much to worry about. Also, having my eSim transfered was a breeze too. Now I have my iPhone ditched, so it won’t see the light of day until I get it traded in for something nice coming up in my future purchases.
Camera/Photos
Super glad to have my phone set up because of the photos I would be taking. During the trip we drove over to Cincinnati, Ohio to explore a bit. Now I’m not one to be super professional about my photography, but these shots were impressive. Here’s a few:

Some polishing up on these would do the trick. But to have x140 zoom on a smartphone camera is not only crazy but revolutionary. While it does have certain quirks with lighting, it works in some occasions. This makes an exception to my usual pushback on wanting a pro model for a phone. Very impressed with the cameras. Great job to the team on these
The Glyph Matrix
I think this is going to be a me thing, but my expectations on the Glyph matrix ended up being different to how it works. For a while, I thought the circle on the bottom corner was a button for it to cycle through the various Glyph toys. However that doesn’t seem to be the case. Am I disappointed? No! Absolutely not! I love the functionality on the Glyph matrix and I have had moments when it is very handy. I still need to create some essential notifications, but I love the personality this gives. But I do wish it was more interactive instead of the toys being selected from the settings app. I get that the (4a) pro Glyph matrix was going to be different from the (3), but it still serves the purpose it was given. Still got more to learn.
Battery Life/Performance
The battery life on this phone is outstanding. Instead of rarely being able to stay on my phone, I found that I could go an entire day without having to charge my phone and it would be at least over 50% on its battery percentage, so that meant getting to take a ton of pictures during a single day on the trip without having to worry about my phone dying. As for the performance, there were certain games that I played that worked better than others. Pokemon GO runs very smoothly once I learned how to adjust the settings properly as well as Pikmin Bloom. A good bit of the battery can get eaten up if played for a prolonged time, but not as much as other phones. As for Pokemon TCG Pocket, it doesn’t run as smooth as it did on my iPhone. And there weren’t any settings that could fix a lot of those problems. I do have a fourth game, but I don’t play it much. Might exchange that for Pokemon Sleep or something else. Overall, light gaming is very friendly, but I also don’t do a lot of mobile gaming. As for the battery, it always feels great having a reliable battery charge.
I will also note that I’m surprised there isn’t any wireless charging. I wonder when that’ll be the norm and wonder if there would be some form of MagSafe.
Customization
I love the minimalist UI on this phone! There is certain times when it works, and this phone sets that bar well. The generative wallpaper feature brings a ton of personality for it to be powered by AI. App organization is optimal on this phone. I have my home screen set up nicely to stay organized and keep my interests together. However, one thing that I found odd is that editing on this phone is tedious. Have to start editing, then move one thing, start editing again, and then move another. It becomes a cycle any time I want to move/place an app or widget somewhere. One thing I miss about the iPhone is that you can continuously edit without interuptions. Maybe I that can be something that gets fixed.
Other Thoughts
Some others thoughts I had have to due with the designs and features.
I love the full metal jacket this phone has with the small window of transparency. What gravitate me towards Nothing was the transparent design demographic, from the audio to the phones. At first my thought on the (4a) pro was that it looked archaic from a first glance. But maybe that’s what it was all about. I got compliments from my coworkers saying it looks high tech and very impressive. Some gawked at the fact that I got an Android 🙄
I will always love that the phones come with a case, but mine came out to be a bit warped. Did anyone else have this issue?
Conclusion
To wrap this up, I just want to say that I am happy to have this phone. My whole mindset this year is to make a change. So one of my goals was to get a Nothing phone. And it ended up being something revolutionary. I will continue to post about my thoughts on the phone as well as share some impressive photography on my next vacation.
Now it’s a matter of time to find me a new smart watch. Been debating on getting a CMF watch just to finish my Nothing ecosystems. Give me some thoughts. Also need to spend my $100 coupon. Still debating on what I should use it on.
That’ll wrap things up for this post. Digest it well and share your thoughts. Happy to be posting again.
Till next time,
