I’ve been using the Nothing Phone (3a) since April 2025, and I also purchased the CMF 65W GaN charger on the same day.
I’m facing a weird charging issue and wanted to check if this is normal or something’s off.
When the phone is switched OFF, it charges fast, reaching around 80% in 35–40 minutes, which feels right. But when the phone is switched ON, charging slows down a lot — it takes around 1 hour 20–30 minutes to reach the same level.
I’m aware that ambient temperature can affect charging speeds, but I’m charging the phone in a cool AC environment, so heat shouldn’t be the issue.
To rule out charger problems, I tested multiple setups:
- Samsung 25W /45W GaN charger
- CMF 33W charger
-Ambrane 65W Gan Charger
- GM wattage display cable to check Watts
Across all of them, I noticed the charging power is mostly capped at 12–15W, occasionally peaking around 20W when the phone is ON.
This makes it feel like the phone isn’t utilizing its full fast-charging capability during normal usage.
Has anyone else faced this?
Is this expected behavior (like some software/battery protection), or could this be a bug or hardware issue?
Would appreciate any insights or fixes.
Thanks!
