Android Auto not connecting - help

Just got my new Nothing Phone (4a) Pro and have it had up and running for a couple of days now. So far no issues except a major one: Android Auto seems not to work with my SEAT (Volkswagen, Skoda group). Phone and audio via Bluetooth works, but there seems to be an issue with USB. **Symptoms** 1. Bluetooth coupled successfully (audio, phone) 2. Nothing phone with (or without) USB debugging enabled 3. USB connection with file transfer enabled 4. Starting connection on car 5. Phone shows "wave" effect for charging (charging works) 6. Phone shows Android Auto notification saying "connected" 7. Car show error message: KERA-QRD_SN:5A1774DB Leider konnte Ihr mobiles Gerät nicht verbunden werden. (Translated: Unfortunately, your mobile device could net get connected.) **Versions** * Car: SEAT Leon model 2023 * Nothing Phone (4a) Pro OS 4.1, FroggerPro-B4.1-260323-1635-EEA Android 16, Update March 1, 2026 Kernel 6.6.92-android15-8 **Tests** * Tried various USB-C cables including the original that came with the phone. No difference. * Removed the connection from the car several times. No difference. * Turned USB debugging on and off on the phone. No difference. Looks like an USB problem to me. Bluetooth is working. Surprising given than all my previous, cheap chinese phones worked out of the box with my car. EM 1 That does not look promising indeed…
The market share of the Volkswagen group in Europe is about 25 %. And Nothing phones won’t work.

soccom it works in my vw and kia, idk what is wrong maybe it might be 4a issue coz the phone 2 pro i have hasn’t had this

Okay, that sounds somewhat promising. What USB setting are you using? File transfer or charging only?
My SEAT recognizes the phone briefly as a USB device and then lists it but at the same time the car indicates “not connected”.

soccom I am using it as file transfer only, first it says disconnected then it connected to Android auto. In my kia but in the vw it is wireless so it just connects i think the disconnect it says was bluetooth. It works fine, does it work on any other car wired and wireless?

I only have one car; so only tried it there.
The wireless Bluetooth connection works for phone calls but not to link my navigation app (Google Maps) to the car’s display. I have no access to phone apps without the USB cable. With my old phone that works fine.

soccom hi try in your friends car or one of your family members car as we cant judge if it is a issue with the connection or the hardware. This is the only way we can judge it

The USB hardware looks fine. The Nothing 4a Pro can transfer files to and from my PC. Also, the car can access USB stick (and my old phone). Thus, Both USB ports (car and phone) look good.
As an embedded software engineer who has implemented USB device, I still suspect something in the phones USB enumeration (timing issue?).

I’m having the same problem trying to connect my new phone 4a pro to my Mazda 3 2022 using a high speed usb data cable. My friends Samsung connects, my son’s iPhone 16 connects and my wife’s nothing 3a pro also connects!

I’ve tried everything I can find online and nothing works. This is really poor from Nothing… there must be a fix surely? 😞

Hello sadly have same problem with my nothing phone 3a never worked with Skoda Fabio 2023

Works fine with other phones including CMF pro 2

Tried everything via support never fixed

Will be last nothing phone because of this as need to use android auto regularly

I have the same problem. My new Nothing Phone 4(a) Pro can’t connect to my car (Skoda Fabia 2023) via Android Auto, but Bluetooth works fine. I tried connecting the phone to another car (Opel Mokka 2021), and it worked fine. I hope that they can fix the problem soon.
