Hey everyone,
We talk a lot about “intentional tech”—using our devices to get things done without getting lost in the scroll. While we love our current Phone setups, I’ve been thinking about the need for a secondary device that acts as a pure, focused companion.
I’m curious to get the community’s take on a concept for a minimalist secondary phone. Let’s call it the Nothing Zero.
The Philosophy: A device that does exactly what you need for work and communication, and nothing else. No doom-scrolling, no endless notifications, no hardware distractions.
The Specs:
Camera: Front-only. Designed strictly for video calls and quick scan-to-document tasks. No back camera to maintain a clean, flat aesthetic and ensure privacy.
Audio: No internal speaker or mic. This would be a Bluetooth-only device—forcing the integration of Nothing Ear/Stick. It keeps the hardware footprint small and clean.
Performance: Not a gaming machine. It’s built to run the essentials: Email, Messaging (Signal/Telegram/WhatsApp), and Calling.
The “Retro” Touch: Capability to run lightweight, old-school 2D games. Low memory usage for those times you’re waiting in a queue and just need a 5-minute break.
Design: Ultra-slim, transparent casing, and—of course—a simplified Glyph Interface for essential notifications only.
Why this matters: As someone who juggles a busy professional schedule, I find that even with “Focus Mode,” the temptation of a fully loaded smartphone is real. I’d love a secondary device that just handles the “business” side of life, allowing me to leave the primary phone in a drawer when I need to get deep work done.
My questions for you all:
Would you ever switch to a “dual-phone” lifestyle if it meant regaining your focus?
What is the one app you couldn’t live without on a device like this?
How would you design the Glyph interface for a “Minimalist” mode?
Let me know if you think this is just a pipe dream or something that would actually find a spot in your pocket.
