With Android 17 on the horizon, I’m really excited to see what the Nothing team is cooking up for the upcoming Nothing OS 5.0 update.

We’ve been hearing a lot of interesting rumors and leaks lately, but I wanted to ask the community and the team directly: What brand-new features are coming to Nothing OS 5.0? Are there any completely new, surprise elements being developed?

Based on current leaks, we are expecting things like:

New AI Agent Features: Building upon the recently released “Essential Voice” feature.

Nothing Warp Integration: Smoother cross-platform file sharing across Android, Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Enhanced Multitasking: Better implementation of floating app bubbles natively supported by Android 17.

Advanced Customization: Multi-page lock screen widgets, custom icon sizing, and more unique Dot-Matrix style widgets.

However, I would love to know if the team is planning something entirely unexpected or highly innovative for the UI and the Glyph Interface. What is your most anticipated feature for the next major OS drop? Let’s discuss!

Hi Nothing Community and Developers,

While Nothing OS is known for its clean and minimal look, it sometimes feels a bit too basic compared to the visual aesthetics of iOS (with its premium liquid glass feel) or Samsung’s deeply customized One UI. To truly stand out as an innovative tech brand, Nothing needs features that are not just functional, but visually premium and exclusive.

Here are 4 game-changing features inspired by the hardware philosophy of Nothing that I would love to see in upcoming Nothing OS updates:

1. Pure E-Ink “Paper” Mode (The Ultimate Battery Saver & Reading Tech)

Standard reading modes just add an ugly amber tint to the screen. Instead, Nothing should introduce a system-wide Pure E-Ink Mode.

How it works: It turns the entire UI into a classic, high-contrast, Amazon Kindle-style textured paper look. Every icon, font, and element transitions into a soft ink-on-paper aesthetic.

The Benefit: Since it runs on an AMOLED screen by completely optimizing pixels, it will drastically cut down power consumption, increasing battery life by up to 3x while being incredibly easy on the eyes during late-night reading or long working hours.

2. Glassmorphism & Liquid UI (Bringing the Transparent Back Inside)

Nothing phones are famous for their transparent glass backs. Why not bring that exact premium feel inside the software?

How it works: The Notification panel, Quick Settings, and app icons should feature a highly polished “Frosted Glass” (Glassmorphism) effect.

The Benefit: When scrolling, background wallpapers should subtly fluidly move behind these glassy layers. This visual cohesion between physical hardware and software UI will look way more premium than Apple’s iOS animations.

3. Cine-Vivid HDR & Pure Color Engine (Advanced Display Profiles)

We need deeper control over how our display renders colors and blacks:

Pure Dark 2.0: A pitch-black theme that forces absolute zero-pixel emission on AMOLED panels for extreme battery saving and deep contrast.

Pro Color Profiles: Specialized toggle options like ‘Cine-Vivid HDR’ for vibrant, popping colors while streaming 4K content, and a ‘Natural Pure Color’ option for color-accurate everyday use.

4. Matrix Fluid Smoothness (High Smoothness without Battery Drain)

Right now, forcing 120Hz refresh rate drains the battery quickly. Nothing needs an optimization engine that targets Animation Physics rather than just higher refresh rates. By tweaking the dynamic inertia of how windows and widgets slide, the UI can feel liquid-smooth even at lower refresh rates, giving us the perfect balance of premium smoothness and long battery life.

Nothing has the coolest hardware on the market right now. If the team integrates these aesthetic and highly useful display features into the software, Nothing OS will become unbeatable.

grepGander did you try nothing warp tho? It’s quite quick and hassle free since it keeps your devices in sync so you just hit share and it shows up in your other device, it’s just the first iteration of it so they probably will work more on it

Nothing OS has covered the basics perfectly. But for the next big jump, what completely new and crazy features do you want to see?

Here are some wild ideas on my wishlist:

*Nothing Vault / Drive: A native, highly secure encrypted space for our private files and photos.

*Per-App Refresh Rate Control: The ability to lock certain apps at 60Hz while keeping the rest of the UI at 120Hz to save battery.

*Native Nothing Dialer & Call Recording: A true Nothing-styled phone app with automatic call recording (without the annoying announcement).

If u don’t know the call recoding without announcement is already available in the nothing phone here is a step to use it

U can place a recoding widget in home screen and when ever u are on the phone u can go back to the home screen and press the recode button it will recode the call without any announcement and u can click it again it end the recoding and save it

No.1 and No.3 are the features that I do not agree with, as Nothing does not need to add these apps as an alternative to the pre-installed Google ones, making them bloatware. Then you can install an app to do voice recording, and in places such as the UK, call recording withour announcements is illegal under the Data Protection Act 2018. Also, why do we need a separate Vault or cloud storage when GDRIVE or OneDrive is satisfactory.

Here’s a crazy suggestion, implement updated software to match the capabilities of the hardware, or does Carl still need to seek and employ more experienced team members whom can actually deliver? I’m still waiting for my 3a pro to produce stable results and deliver images which match the capabilities of the hardware (handset) and still no 60fps 4k video, regular inconsistent results from the camera? why? I still need to utilise Gcam APK to ensure consistent results why my pixel 2xl still produces far superior results at 12mp?

I appreciate that the capabilities of my 3a pro will be limited to a mid range smartphone, I’m not expecting flagship performance, but it seems plagued with software inconsistencies, particularly around the camera and battery software stability. The hardware is more than capable, so why are the team experiencing issues delivering stable results?

they will add:

1 or 2 lock screen clock face.
minor tweeks.
minor features from android 17 (which wont require major work load on software development team)
more smoothness in ui.
