Not gonna lie, this stings. Phone 2 doesnât get OS 5.0, but Phone 2a and 2a Plus do â both from the same â2â series, and the mid-rangers get to move on while the flagship gets left behind.
To be clear, Nothing didnât break any promise here. 3 years of OS updates was the deal from day one, and Phone 2 got exactly that, ending with Android 16 in November 2025. Fair is fair.
But Phone 3 now gets 5 years of OS updates and 7 years of security. That tells us Nothing has learned 3 years wasnât enough, and future flagships wonât run into this. Phone 2 is just the last one stuck under the old policy.
I personally believe Phone 2 is still capable. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip inside it is still running flagship phones from other brands just fine. This isnât a hardware problem, itâs a timing one.
Nobodyâs asking for feature parity with Phone 3. Even a scaled-down build of OS 5.0 for Phone 2, with the core visual and security improvements minus the heavier features, would go a long way.
