What is missing from today's file managers? 👀

I’m currently building a minimalist file manager inspired by Nothing’s design language, and I’d love to hear what the community thinks.

Most file managers already cover the basics:

• Copy, move, rename, and delete

• Search

• Favorites

• Archive support

• Storage overview

But what about the features that are still missing?

If you could add one advanced feature to file manager, what would it be?

Some ideas:

• Duplicate file finder

• Large file scanner

• Private folder / biometric vault

• Folder size analysis

• Smart search filters

• Better storage visualization

• Batch rename

• Network storage support (SMB/FTP)

Or maybe something completely different?

I’m trying to build features that people actually find useful rather than adding things just for the sake of having a long feature list.

I’d love to hear your ideas, pain points, and feature requests. Some of the best suggestions may even find their way into future versions of app. 🚀

Shubham verma First of all, before implementing advanced things into it, Think once why do people use file manager app , obviously to delete old photos and videos and documents which are taking space of their phone’s storage, so instead of implementing advanced things there to improve the user experience, it would be far better to implement small but meaningful tools which let users do the exact same thing with ease and i personally don’t feel the need of extra cool features , it’s optional, not necessary… Now I don’t think you have the need to hear from people all over the world and make yourself feel confused on what to do .. you got the answer my boy..

Also the feature to view files in Internal Storage > Android > Data, whereas Google files won’t allow to view . If enabled it will be a 🤯

Nhf, but quite literally all of that exists in Files by Google (and it works flawlessly). It can even search for any random word within your documents, such as PDFs (if you enable “Smart Search” in its settings).

More file managers need to do the dual/split window for ease of moving.

qu3_8mm That’s a good point. Dual-pane/split view is one of those power-user features that can make file management much more efficient, especially on tablets and larger screens.

Definitely something worth considering for a modern file manager. 👀

I agree that the core experience should come before adding lots of advanced features. Most people just want to find files quickly, free up storage, and keep things organized.

That’s why I’ve been focusing on features like storage insights, large file detection, empty folder cleanup, favorites, category-based browsing, fast search, and a clean UI rather than trying to pack in everything possible.

The goal is to make everyday file management simpler and faster, not more complicated. 👀

Access to Android/Data is definitely something many power users ask for. Android has become much more restrictive over the years, but with the proper permissions and Android’s storage framework, there may still be ways to make access easier for users.

It’s an interesting area, especially for people who regularly manage app data, backups, and game files. 👀

I think that the ability to understand the size of a folder by graphical dimesnion is a cray overlooked feature, something like filelight or even something more “boxy” looking…

xplore filemanager by lonelycat was my favorite file manager all the way from nokia symbian times - it had everything

acess to all files and folder even android folder and root folder - but i think latest android updates have completely locked us out.

copy - move - rename - delete

ftp - send via wireless - bluetooth

and my fav - give me access to my second phone storage via wireless
