Would you use a Nothing-inspired SMS app? 👀

I’ve been exploring ideas for future projects and was wondering what the Nothing Community thinks about a dedicated SMS app.

Most of us already use Google Messages, so I’m curious:

• Would you actually switch to a minimalist Nothing-inspired SMS app? • What would make it worth using? • Should it focus on pure SMS, or include RCS support if possible? • What features do you feel are missing from current messaging apps?

Personally, I feel most messaging apps are becoming bloated, and there’s room for something cleaner, faster, and more focused on the user experience.

Would you use it, or is Google Messages already good enough for your needs?

Shubham verma I think there is no need, Google Messages does a perfect job(Except that there is no option to change the design 😕)

Shubham verma hey man if u can make it iam saying jst for it as there not a single nothing inspired sms app and i really want one as there are like 2 dailer apps but no sms app and yeah i mainly use whatsapp for texting but it will cool to have a app but please make it so it works like Google messages so it’s not jst nothing inspired but functional too as I don’t use any nothing inspired dailers as they have glitches that real one doesn’t but i would love to try it and really want it iam up for it man

I think Google Messages is fine for me, I don’t need every app on my 3a to be minimal, only the barebone apps such as Clock, Calculator, Contacts.

Even Samsung is going for Google Messages, but you’re still want to have all Nothing-styled apps just because🤷🏼‍♀️

SMS is fairly obsolete, isn’t it? What’s the point of a messaging app if it doesn’t offer end-to-end encryption (with RCS)? While RCS is technically carrier-dependent, it still relies on Google Jibe ( https://docs.jibemobile.com/ ) to make it universally compatible across all devices globally.

Google spent billions of dollars building that necessary global infrastructure (Jibe), so how exactly would we “plug into” it to implement working RCS?

Even Samsung got out of the custom-messaging-app business because it simply wasn’t profitable for them to pay Google roughly $250 million annually (saw the mention of that exact number, multiple times on different sources, not sure if it’s completely correct). Would we really pay that much for just 50 users in the Nothing community?

That is $5 million a year per head, just to have a Nothing-themed app, to put it into perspective. Do we have, as each individual user, that much money per year to pay “subscription” just to enjoy Nothing’s aesthetics? Rhetorical question.

Hansdah but is it customizable? I really care about apperance and look the animations and feature too but if it feels boring to use i will end up using it less so i really love well degined and apps with cool ui

I hate RCS. It let’s others know that I’ve read their messages, Including spammers. 😐 Google messages is pretty good. But, if nothing ever make their own app it should be something like this:

OTP should be prioritised and automatically deleted in 24 hours (i enabled autodelete otp after 24 hours but it’s still there on Google messages)
Let the users add words that should automatically go to spam.
Bank and insurance companies are persistent.. if I put one of their contacts on spam they spam from different service numbers. Instead of blocking a service number, maybe let us block them based on the service name? Like xxx credit card. If I block credit card related spams it should go to spam.

But, I won’t keep my hopes up.
