Ideas for the Nothing Watch 1/CMF Watch Classic

So you know how casio has their vintage lineup right? Imagine if nothing made “smart” watches like that. So they’d have kind of the same case design as the casio but with slightly more features.

So it’d tell the time, alarms, battery level, timer, stopwatch, hourly time signal, all the usual features of a casio watch. But I’d say that it’s the first “smart” watch to use an LCD.

The main difference is that this would have beep for notifications, step tracker, notifications display on the watch(a simple light or an icon on the watch), a more powerful green backlight LED or two green LED bulbs, a full dot matrix LCD for a change. And the reason I’m keeping smart in quotes is because there’s not going to me any other sensors other than the step tracker cause some people (like Me and other watch nerds) don’t want smart watches cause they’re too distracting and need to be charged every 2 or 3 days.

I’ll upload the rough diagram to this post by next Wednesday cause I’m busy with studies at the moment. And I seriously hope the nothing product and design team see this. But you can expect it to look something like this.

Got the inspiration after looking at my A168 for a while 😂

Here is the Product concept. I think nothing would be able to make this if they use the same kind of LCD as the playdate, but with some green or teal LED bulbs for lighting. It can be in this gunmetal colour or in regular silver.

One thing I’d like to say is that the labeling for the side panel is wrong. The correct one would be:

Hourly time signal
Alarm
Notifications
Mute
DND

This one is the CMF watch classic based on the F-91W. It’s supposed to be having the CMF phone 2 pro colourway so it will come in orange, white, black and mint green. The changes are the same as the one above.

CMF could make smth nice based on this idea. Since I rarely see people from latest generation/“gen alpha” to go for such vintage stuff, unless some well known brand turn it into the new trend or build upon it with some refinements, for the lack of a better word. That colorway looks nice too.

But since you are, just a guess, “old enough” to appreciate a band like “Led zeppelin” and are into vintage casio models, I think you’d rather go for this:

For younger nothing/cmf enthusiasts tho, I guess the made by CMF version would be more attractive🙂

Idgf97 ik I’m actually one generation older in taste than my generation (gen z) actually. And even though I like the ABL-100 but I prefer the A168’s backlight.

I don’t have a need for a step counter on my watch because firstly it’s on my phone, and I have other watches I use in rotation. But none the less casio is king

Vidyut_nagarkar Never had the ABL100 since it’s not available here. I’ve only had 3 models, might as well count as two. I’m currently using an A168 actually. Had (and lost) one from it’s first gen/production era. The models which is chrrently being sold looks like a mildly refined of it’s classic/original version .

Btw, By liking the backlight on the a168 more, do you mean the backlight’s color? Or maybe it’s brightness?

(I’m gen Z too. But technically you’re /feel/even look old after 25 or so. As an iranian at least lol)

Idgf97 Both the colour and brightness. I have a Timex expedition chronograph too with indiglo and it’s such an advantage to have an EL backlight

idk it looks like a collab not a cmf product. it needs more nothing design in it. Not just a cool colorway

tariknasir01 Maybe. But it would be more like the moonswatch kind of collab where nothing makes the components and it’s designed by casio. Maybe they use a casio LCD too🤔

Pritosh is the CMF watch that more customisable than any other smart watch though? Fine you can change the bezel. But every other smart watches can be as customisable as the CMF watch.

The thing with this is that because it’s a straight copy, the same kind of casio mods will also apply. So you can have a different backdrop, different filter, and because it’s a dot matrix LCD you can have different fonts for the numbers too.

And if you’d read my post thoroughly, you’ll see that this is aimed at watch nerds who want a watch that has lesser features while also being less distracting. And it’s timeless and never goes out of fashion. Want more colours? Get a different strap. After all you can find straps for these as easily as any other casio.

And it’s main selling point is 7 year battery. Let’s see any smart watch bear that.

Pritosh yo smartwatches are the same thing. Besides the parent on casio’s design on their vintage lineup has long since expired.

Go on Amazon and search for Casio. Most of what you see are blatant copies. This is a different watch altogether even if the features and silhouette are the same.

The only true unique, customisable watch is one you can make yourself.

And the CMF phone isn’t all that customisable too. Especially in India.

Smartwatches are also like that. 90% of them have the same features and are confined to either a square or circle.

And it’s not a carbon copy since the LCD has different components and the actual movement is different.

Even Timex themselves have copies of casio.

Even though the silhouettes are similar they are 2 different watches with the same features.

By that respect, every single round watch is a copy of eachother since they tell the time, are quartz/mechanical, are chronographs, are dive watches, are GMT watches, or are digital or smartwatches.

Pritosh “appealing to a wider audience”. This is the main function. Read my main post more clearly please. The main intent behind this watch is more connectivity while appealing to watch nerds like me.

Infact the reason is watch nerds don’t use smart watches is because they’re too distracting and that they have a lot of features.

If you check YouTube you’ll see a lot of people, especially Dankpods, shifting back to and using old tech or retro styled tech for example record players, walkmans, and MP3 players.

So for nothing to catch up with this and Appeal to a larger group of people who want lesser distractions in their life, the need to consider making this watch.
