I recently completed the CMF Watch Pro competition with my friend @alessandroraineri
Our work is a tribute to Italian design in that:
1. Milan represents our roots in Design, providing us with the creative impetus needed for these creations
2. The concept of Color Material Finish (CMF) was conceived by Italian designer Clinio Castelli
3. The common thread among the major brands of that current of Design is precisely the color orange
We want to be transparent about the creative process. So these are some of our sketches, along with WhatsApp chats that have been a continuous exchange of ideas and feedback. We also included the moodboard with our visual inspirations.
Our two concepts represent yin and yang, two opposing but mutually complementing concepts.
Phormosa
The first dial is inspired by Milan, the Italian capital of fashion and design on the world stage.
It echoes the essential simplicity of the Formosa calendar designed by Enzo Mari for Danese. For this concept, we prioritized presenting information clearly to the user. The choice of font draws inspiration from the stripes of the logo of the Triennale, the museum of Italian design, making it iconic in its simplicity.
City Life
The second represents the opposite, a dial inspired by the contemporary, fast-paced spirit of the city of Milan. It presents all the information you need to navigate your dynamic lifestyle: offering functionality but without sacrificing style.
