Nothiq Actually, I think it can be genuinely useful. The idea isn’t to replace the notification panel or simply show the same notifications somewhere else. It could be a dedicated, interactive space for ongoing activities and quick actions.
Instead of reaching all the way to the top of the screen every time you need to pull down a panel, you could simply swipe the sidebar with your thumb and access what you need. That makes quick actions much more convenient, especially when using the phone one-handed.
Even replying to notifications can sometimes feel annoying and lengthy when you already have a bunch of notifications stacked in the notification panel. Having quick replies for specific apps like WhatsApp or Instagram directly in the sidebar could make responding to important messages much faster and more interactive.
The sidebar could also include shortcuts for things like Screenshot and Screen Recording. Instead of using the three-finger swipe every time for a screenshot or going through the quick settings for screen recording, you could simply open the sidebar and tap the respective shortcut. These small interactions could make the feature genuinely practical rather than just another UI element.
So I see Lucent less as “another notification bar” and more as a thumb-friendly, contextual control layer that gives you quick access to the things you actually need without interrupting what you’re doing.
And yes! people find it useful as some of them are already working on it.
