Hey everyone! 👋

I figured it was finally time to introduce myself properly to the Nothing Community.

I’m a Canadian Nothing user, and I bought my Phone (4a) Pro in June. I’ve now been using it for about two months as my daily phone, and honestly… I’ve been loving it.

The first thing that attracted me was obviously the design.

It’s almost impossible to use this phone around other people without someone asking:

“What phone is that?” 😂

I’ve had quite a few people stop and ask me about it, and that’s actually one of the things I’ve enjoyed most about owning a Nothing phone. It feels different.

But after two months, it’s not just the design that keeps me interested. I’ve really started enjoying the Nothing OS experience, the camera, the overall feel of the phone and the little details that make it different from the usual smartphones.

One thing I’ve noticed, though, is that I don’t see nearly as many Canadian voices here as I’d expect.

So I figured…

Over the next month, I want to share my experience as a Canadian Phone (4a) Pro user — the things I love, the things I think Nothing could improve, photography, battery life, Nothing OS, accessories, Canadian availability and anything else that comes up.

More importantly, I’d love to find other Canadian Nothing users.

I’m in British Columbia. Ordered the phone 2 when it first became available on this side of the water. Overall been happy with my purchase. Ended up getting the cmf watch pro 2 and nothing ear 2024 model was well. The only thing that I had sent in for warranty was the watch when it kept on dropping Bluetooth connection with the phone. That was the only hiccup warranty wise.

Waiting to see what they will come up with for phone 4 once they finally announce it. Might end up moving on to a pixel maybe. Call screening is becoming an essential feature with the rise of spam calls.

There is one thing I would like to bring up though, nothing ear has been the most comfortable ear buds I’ve ever used. I can wear them for hours and no pain or discomfort. I don’t think I could ever use any other buds after trying a multitude of brands.

Really appreciate you sharing all of this. It’s actually really interesting hearing from someone who’s been in the Nothing ecosystem for a while and has experience with the Phone (2), Ear and CMF Watch Pro 2.

The Pixel comment caught my attention though 👀 — if Nothing could change/add one thing with their next phone that would make you stay with Nothing instead of moving to Pixel, what would it be?

And I’m curious about the spam-call screening point too. That’s something I’d definitely like to hear more Canadian users’ opinions on.

Going with a pixel makes it easier to own long term. Long software support, places that will be able to replace a battery and local support for warranty issues. If nothing keeps The 5 major OS updates and add call screening then it would be enough to make me stay most likely.

As the cost of a current pixel 11 pro XL is now essentially the same as a iPhone 17 pro max. The price advantage is no longer a factor. So it comes down to features and support. Either software, warranty or a brick and mortar location that is accredited to address problems.

Miguelfb6 That’s actually a really interesting way of looking at it, and I completely understand where you’re coming from.

The long-term support + local repair/warranty point especially makes sense to me. At this point, once you’re spending that kind of money on a phone, knowing that you can actually get it serviced locally becomes almost as important as the hardware itself.

And I agree that if the price difference between Nothing and the major competitors keeps shrinking, then Nothing really has to differentiate through the overall experience and features.

I’m curious though — if Nothing gave you the software support and call screening you’re looking for, but local repair/warranty options were still limited, would that be enough to keep you with Nothing? Or is having somewhere physical to go a deal-breaker for you?

I’m asking because I’m trying to understand what Canadian Nothing users actually value most, rather than just assuming. 🇨🇦

I get multiple spam calls daily which is impossible to block them all since they are constantly changing numbers, so having something like call screen that Pixel has would be ideal - but ultimately if we had the carrier do something (like what Telus does) that would be fine too.

As for warranty - I’ve had poor service from Nothing in the past so I am a bit leery about how they would handle any hardware issues. I bought the Phone 4a Pro knowing that if there was an issue, I may not be able to get it fixed and I may need to just buy another phone, so it was kind of an experiment (I kept my previous phone for a few months to see how things went).

The other thing is there have been a few bugs I’ve reported that, while their support has been good at answering some things, the actual bugs themselves have not been fixed (DPI scaling issues with widgets, Wi-Fi issues with WPA3 being the largest). The phone has been out for a long enough time I would expect these bugs, ESPECIALLY the Wi-Fi bug to be fixed by now.

Lexcyn I don’t use the service that telus offers for blocking calls as nothing shows up on me end.

For example, a lot of doctors appointments can be done over the phone for simple requests like prescription refills. They always use a hidden or blocked number so you don’t call them back at 2am for that funky looking rash after a wild night out. Same issue with some couriers that need to call for information, some call from a blocked number as it gets routed through their system as your details are tied to the order.

Hello. I’m here in sunny Saskatchewan with a 3(a). But it’s not my main phone. I’m still on an iPhone and it will take me a while to break free. Nothing controls my heart strings but Apple still controls my ecosystem. I’m struggling to break free. ICloud, Apple TV, HomePods, etc.

Nothing is the kind of company I want to support during the trade war with the US. But my whole family is on iOS and I pay for their subscriptions.

Hi!

I have one question. I was planning to buy this phone and I saw a couple of posts saying that notifications aren’t coming through well. Is it so? Is everything okay with Telegram, Gmail, and other apps?

I’ve never had issues with my phone 2. But there is a delay. Maybe 5 seconds or so compared to iOS. As iOS seem to get push notifications faster. Same goes for my android tablet. But after NOS4, it’s been a lot better when it moved to Android 16.

What carrier is everyone using? I’m using Rogers currently but debating switching to Bell because I have a pretty good offer (and Rogers just raised my rates)

I am on Telus at the moment. Switched due to a EPP through work from Rogers. It never pays off when it comes to loyalty. Switch every 2 years to get the best deal. All they do is raise the prices and hope you stick it out with them.

Miguelfb6 yeah unfortunately loyalty never pays off with our carriers. Bell has the best deal for me so I am probably jumping ship. Just sucks because my local area Rogers has better coverage.
