Hey Nothing community! 👋
I recently got access to Nothing Playground, and one of the first things I wanted to try was building something useful for everyday use.
So, I built News at a Glance — a simple 4×2 news widget designed to keep the latest headlines right on your Nothing home screen.
📰 What is News at a Glance?
The idea is pretty simple:
Glance at your home screen → see what’s happening → tap if you want to read more.
No need to open a news app just to check what’s happening.
✨ Features
🌍 Global news
Get headlines from around the world.
🌐 Multiple languages
Choose your preferred language, including regional languages such as Hindi and Telugu.
🗂️ Choose your topic
Pick the type of news you want to see:
World
Technology
Business
Science
Sports
Politics
Entertainment
Health
Environment
Education
🔄 Configurable refresh
Choose how often the widget should refresh.
↔️ Browse headlines
Swipe through the available stories directly from the widget.
Tap a headline to open the complete article in your browser.
📱 Designed for a 4×2 widget
I wanted to keep the widget compact and make it feel like something that naturally belongs on the Nothing home screen rather than creating another full-sized news application.
The goal is:
Small widget. More information at a glance.
🧪 Community Beta
This is my first version and I’m releasing it as a Beta for the Nothing community.
News sources, freshness and background refresh are still being fine-tuned, so you may occasionally notice older headlines or temporary loading issues.
If you find something that doesn’t work as expected, please share:
Your language
Selected topic
Approximate time
What happened
That feedback will help me improve it.
This is also my first experience building something specifically for Nothing Playground, so I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks. ❤️
If you try it, let me know:
Which language + topic combination would you use most? 👇
