Nothing OS 5.0 Beta – Nothing Phone (4a) Pro Camera Feedback 📸
I tested the camera in daylight, HDR, backlit scenes, foliage, portraits, group photos, macro and low-light conditions.
Issues noticed: • Low-light photos sometimes have a noticeable water-painting/oil-painting effect.
• Aggressive noise reduction removes fine skin, hair, beard and clothing details.
• Fine textures can look smeared instead of naturally detailed.
• Some images show excessive sharpening around edges and fine objects.
• Shadows can become too dark, resulting in loss of detail.
• HDR processing sometimes looks too contrast-heavy.
• Bright clouds can lose highlight details in high-contrast scenes.
• Foliage can appear overly saturated and processed.
• Green colours sometimes look less natural.
• Night portraits can have a noticeable warm/yellow/orange cast.
• Skin tones could be more natural under artificial and mixed lighting.
• Backlit subjects need better shadow recovery while retaining sky details.
• Moving subjects can show noticeable motion blur.
• Low-light scenes need better detail retention without introducing excessive noise.
• Macro photos could preserve more micro-detail in small subjects.
• Camera processing should maintain a more consistent look between different lighting conditions.
Suggested improvements:
Please tune the ISP/computational photography processing to provide more natural results, especially noise reduction, HDR tone mapping, shadow recovery, white balance, skin tones, motion handling, sharpening and fine-detail preservation.
The camera hardware appears capable of producing good results; the main improvement needed is more natural and balanced image processing in the next beta update. 📸
