Nowt: Nothing OS-inspired notes & tasks that can replace Google Keep (out now)

Nowt App

I built a fully featured, Nothing-style notes & tasks app, and it’s currently live on Play Store.

Nowt - Encrypted Notes & Tasks (Play Store)

Hi all, solo dev here. I love the Nothing design language, but every Nothing-inspired notes app I tried was either a nice-looking concept or too basic for daily use. Nothing came close to replacing Google Keep for me, so I built one that could.

Nowt follows the Nothing look. Under that, every note is a stack of blocks (text, checklists, photos, voice memos, maps, film and book shelves), there’s a weekly task planner with reminders, and end-to-end encryption is free and optional.

I shared it with another community this week, and based on feedback there I’ve already shipped full backup and restore on the free tier.

I’m also working on Google Keep import for the next update.

Android only, free with no ads. It’s unofficial and not affiliated with Nothing.

It took about 6–7 months to build and test. For full disclosure, I used AI to help develop it, but I’ve been doing web and app development since well before AI was mainstream, and I review and understand everything that goes in.

I’d really value honest feedback, especially from people who use Nothing OS every day. Let me know if anything’s missing, and I’ll work to incorporate it into the next update alongside Google Keep import.

Nowt App about 6–7 months

Oddly specific XD but yeah the app is actually great. Some suggestions I’d like to have:

I think you should work a bit more on the bluring and don’t make the background bleed through so much(maybe use downsampled Gaussian blur) and make the blocks’ corner a bit round so it looks more modern and sleek
I’d really like if it has native Latex support with bullet/number pointing (like under point 1 there’s bullet points) and a secret folder within the app
A few more themes is always good 😋

Nowt App

WanderingTrader Thanks so much, really glad you like it! 😄

Fair point on the blur, I’ll have a proper look at it. Rounded corners are a good shout too, I’ll experiment and see how it sits with the Nothing look.

Bulleted and numbered lists are already there as blocks (type / and pick Bullet list or Numbered list). LaTeX is noted.

You can lock individual notebooks and notes with a PIN, password or fingerprint, but a dedicated secret folder makes sense. I’ll look into it for sure.

More themes are definitely on the way 👀

Really appreciate the detailed feedback!

Nowt App Google notes can be imported ? Like us it actually possible even? Interesting 🤔

Nowt App

WanderingTrader Yes, Google lets you export your Keep notes and Google Tasks through Google Takeout, and Nowt is now able to do that as of the latest update (1.6.0) released yesterday.

It’ll bring across your notes, checklists, labels (as tags), colours and images. Along with all your Google Tasks, which will go into Nowt Tasks.

WanderingTrader

Nowt App that’s so smart. Great, I’ll wait for the new iterations.

That’s really cool app, you also should add some widgets, showing the tasks in widget, or something like that. I really loved the app tho.

Adding widgets will make it cooler!

Nowt App

Harshil Thank you, really glad you love it! Widgets are a good shout, and they’re on my list!

Some exciting concepts, thanks.

I am missing something though because I can’t seem to find access to anything other than the paragraph block. Where is the option to change block types etc?

Nowt App

puddlemoon Hey, you can access more blocks by typing / in the editor on a new line.

I’ll work on making this more obvious so thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Really like what I see so far - thanks for this excellent addition to our phones!

Nowt App

KevinMcKay Thank you, it means a lot!

Nowt App thanks, that is what I needed. So it doesn’t indicate that in the welcome notes, it instead said tap the + button? But I see no plus button anywhere at all….

An intuitive option perhaps would be the ability to tap the name of the block style in the floating toolbar, tapping the “paragraph” label for example could be a way to change block style. Just a thought.

Oh, and definitely a vote for widgets. A checklist widget that can check off items from the widget seems rare. I’m still hoping to find one that’s not keep.

Thanks for your work, very thorough (:

Nowt App

puddlemoon Thanks for sticking with it, and you’re right, that’s a mistake on my side. The welcome note mentions a + button that was removed before release. I’ll fix the welcome note in the next update.

Making the “Paragraph” label tappable to switch block type is a good idea! The coming update will likely add that, so thank you for the suggestion.

And noted on the checklist widget, that’s going to the top of the widget list.

Really appreciate the thorough feedback!

puddlemoon

Nice. Thanks

The ability to use the label for blocks is great and I’m sure will help other newcomers.

Somehow, I’ve become rather picky about a note app. I like where this is going though so thanks again.
