Voting is almost near. I just thought of introducing my project to all the members of the community. I believe anything out of sight is out of mind and therefore would like to bring your attention to my entry from the total 400+ submissions. Also, I did not do a great job of explaining the concept as I was super sleepy while submitting it. I thought we could revisit the entry later and make the changes but we couldn’t.
I wanted to create a concept to make it easier for the user to understand what the AI is doing and interact with AI similar to how we would communicate with a person. In short, let’s humanize AI.
ChatGPT and other AI apps have introduced voice communication features and thought this was an opportunity to introduce shapes on the back of the phone which are familiar to us that means human and to communicate with this symbol rather than your phone. A symbolic representation of a human is a head in the form of a circle and an elongated dome that represents the body. The curved plastic part of the phone with the electrical traces/NYC subway lines is modified (I just rotated the original design) to emulate the human symbol. The glyph LEDs represent the mind, ear and mouth of the AI, based on the similarity in the position of these features on a face.
Since the hero of all Nothing phones is the back of the phone, we can now communicate with the back face. The front camera also acts as a camera for the AI. When the AI speaks or listens, you can see the glyph lights fluctuating like audio signals. When the AI is processing the answers for your query, the glyph light will move like a loading bar animation showing that it is thinking. See it in action below.
I wanted to maintain the DNA of the 2A’s design (the glyph LEDs, electrical traces that mimic the subway lines, transparency, etc) while bringing in subtle changes that enhance the user experience.
This concept also features the WGSN color of the year 2025 Future Dusk. For those of you who don’t know about WGSN, WGSN is a company that analyses trend and forecasts future needs - the summer spring collection of your favorite brand, etc etc.
Future Dusk is a dark, moody and intriguing hue, sitting between blue and purple. It has a sense of mystery and escapism, and feeds into themes of transition – whether it be moving from dark to light, or dusk to dawn – making it perfect for a period of immense change. It offers a fresh take on dependable dark blue and manages to feel simultaneously familiar and futuristic.
Future Dusk has “surreal and otherworldly qualities” that align with the influence of the second Space Age, giving it a celestial appeal. It is also a gender-neutral colour. It also fits the sci-fi like feeling of new technology like AI and metaverse. You can see some examples below, even a Rolls Royce in Future Dusk 😱
The chosen color was the main factor for selecting an intergalactic travel theme for the design. I have added a spaceship and a moon for introducing some elements of play and a Saturn ring over the punched hole above. The torque screws represent stars as it has a star shaped head and the glyph lights represent shooting stars. The human figure explained earlier may look like an Astronaut or an Extraterrestrial representing the out of the world intelligence of the AI. You can name it if you like, I like to call it CASPER (You know the reference. )
