I was enthralled by yesterday’s presentation and I believe that I’m definitely not alone.
I’m super excited to try out the ear(1) when it’s out. While we wait, I can’t help but speculate on Nothing’s next product.
During the presentation, something caught my attention. Lew was talking about earphones being exposed all the time(i.e. it’s visible to everyone) and Lew was very disappointed that the design across all the products in such an important wearable category lacked character and looked bland.
Made me think:
What other fast-growing tech product is on us almost all the time(even when we sleep), it’s never in our pockets;always exposed AND every good product in this category so far has been boring interms of design?
Smartwatches.
With Google and Samsung finally getting together to develop an operating system that might resolve the issues plagueing the Wear OS ecosystem for years and with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 series being a quantum leap over their predecessors, there has never been a better time to launch a smartwatch.
The smartwatches with exotic looks aren’t really inspiring interms of software and performance.
What can Nothing bring to the table?
I’ve loved analog watches with transparent bodies. There’s a rumoured Moto watch with just a transparent back that has gotten me go 🤤🤤🤤

I believe that Nothing can make this design paradigm even better.
- Nothing UI on top of Wear OS 3.0
The updated Wear OS should become skin-friendly as evidenced by Samsung’s marketing material containing ‘One UI Watch’ on top of Wear OS for the Watch 4. Nothing can strive to optimise software to make it as seamless as possible(eg. Better notification management/display etc)
- Oh, and the cherry on top.
They just need to add one letter to the Ear(1) and can call it
Nothing Wear(1)
