Seeing carl and Rohit’s tweet regarding a Community App got me hyped because Discord is really distracting for me and I usually don’t visit the community forum when I check my phone. The fomo hits me every couple weeks😂
I believe the current design of the website is a really really good foundation to start with, if we don’t change anything about this it’d still be a great community app! But I still had a few ideas so I’m dropping them here:
- I believe Top Posters this month is a cool feature we can double down on. Something like reddit’s Karma would work well. It’s certainly difficult to get it right, we don’t want to encourage thoughtless posts or spamming but I believe it’d be important for recognising the more active community folks working on projects, giving ***useful ***feedback and people who are just really really active (streaks > 300 is insane🤯) I’d like to see if everyone agree with the general idea before I share more thoughts on this.
- The community can be really creative I believe simple developer access to APIs for reading and writing posts on the app will make the app really fun.
- I’m not sure where we will stand on Discord if the community app goes live but I loved the workshops I’ve attended and workshop archive as well, should have something similar here.
- Community Profile should have ways to show off the Nothing Products you own like in discord.
- Another thing that discord has but the community website lacks is general chit chat and memes, posts feel a lot more serious or professional here I don’t know if it’s by design😆
- I believe the support knowledge base on nothing.tech is quite adequate but nothing beats user-generated content on general how-tos and support till real customer support is required. We see this on the discord server quite often so soft focus there will make the app more useful and engaging for people other than the hardcore fans.
I feel like I had a lot more thoughts when I started writing this so I’ll keep coming back to throw some more random ideas here.
I’d love for everyone to share their thoughts on what they would like to see as well so that the team can build the product for the community, with the community! 🎉
