Phone 2 bricked overnight

Also habe ich mein Handy aufgeladen, bevor ich am Montag ins Bett ging, und gestern aufgewacht, um das Telefon völlig nicht mehr zu finden. Jetzt fragen Sie sich vielleicht, ob das Ladegerät kaputt gegangen ist oder ob es ein Ladungsproblem gibt, nun, ich habe das Ladung mit rund 40% telefoniert. Es würde in 8 Stunden nichts absolut nichts verlieren. Ich habe versucht, das Telefon mit einem anderen Kabel und einem anderen Stecker auf die Ladung zu setzen, und bestätigte auch, ob es über Geräte berechnet würde, aber nach 2 Stunden keine Lebenszeichen vom Telefon. Ich hatte nur eineinhalb Jahre das Telefon, Ja, der Bootloader ist entsperrt, aber es gibt keine benutzerdefinierte Firmware. Ich verwende die neueste OEM -Firmware von Nothing. Null -Modifikationen, es ist nur freigeschaltet, das ist es. Jetzt frage ich mich, ob mein Telefon durch Garantie abgedeckt wird, aber selbst dies diente als Herausforderung. So I put my phone on charge before going to bed on Monday, woke up yesterday to find the phone completely unresponsive. Now you maybe wondering if the charger broke or if there’s a charging issue, well I put on the phone on charge at around 40%, it wouldn’t lose 40% in 8 hours nothing absolutely nothing. I tried putting the phone on charge downstairs with a different cable and plug and also confirmed if it would charge over devices but yet after 2 hours no signs of life from the phone.

Yes the bootloader is UNLOCKED BUT there is NO custom firmware installed, I’m using the latest OEM firmware from Nothing. Zero modifications made, it’s just unlocked that’s it.

Now I wonder if my phone will be covered by warranty but even this served as a challenge, I tried looking on the site for information, nothing found. Okay let’s google, the own support site directs you to different countries, sometimes it was AU, sometimes it was IN. I live here in the UK, why is this so poor for users to find basic information?

This phone has photos and videos that are not backed up to the cloud, I did this for privacy reasons. Now you can’t just take out the storage chip because that’s all encrypted which is only decrypted when you unlock the device. AH!

Again i want to make it clear, the bootloader is unlocked with zero changes/modifications all software is OEM, the device shows zero response to any input

This is extremely frustrating and deeply sad for me, now I am unable to sell the device or give it away and I’ve lost photos and videos of family I’ll never get back

What can I do?

Jake You should be disgusted at your own “photos and videos that are not backed up to the cloud, I did this for privacy reasons”. ANY piece of tech CAN and WILL fail without notice. It’s not IF, but WHEN. If you’re not feeling comfortable backing up to cloud platforms (for valid reasons, I understand), take the hit and back the data up to local storage every few days. I’ve been with Android since 2.x and the number of devices that failed without warning (mine, friends, and family plus online forums) has been low but never zero. You received a new phone in warranty. I see no valid reason to complain.

Well update. I recieved a replacement phone last week. Not even the same color
No data back, previous device gone to waste with all my data….

Support was the worst I’ve ever had, truely a one star. We had almost no status updates. Almost? Well we emailed every week and only had the status “Received”.

Yes it took a month…… Imagine a family that couldn’t afford to buy another phone this is digusting how long it took just to have NONE of my data back.

I’m disgusted, switched to Oneplus instead. Thanks.

Jake The point of full encryption is to have, well, all your data fully encrypted and available only to you and no one else. The same would happen with every other existing OEM as every one of them is, thankfully, using full device encryption. And if you have important data then you have to backup that data, not keep it only on your phone (which can get stolen too, along with your on-device data, which is protected by the previously mentioned encryption).

Jake rule of thumb make a ba k up ether weekly or monthly and in the case of cmf phone 2 pro. Dump everything on an SD card keep nothing important on the phone in a case like this. So then after like 40-50 mins once you get a new phone your data is saved or you can put it on a computer tp transfer to a new phone when you get one

Jake So you get a new phone after roughly a month of waiting and give a single star because of “terrible service”? I mean you got a new device, didn’t you? You even got one regardless of the unlocked bootloader. The Phone (2) has been out of production since a while, of course they don’t have all memory and color combinations sitting around anymore, so they most likely had the choice of either sending you a different color or making you an offer to send the right color but with different (lower) memory. Just recently I’ve read a story about a Fold 5 owner having his phone replaced by Samsung, he used the limited exclusive color and Samsung wasn’t able to return his phone with that color - they simply had no inventory left of an almost two year old device.

Personally I think four weeks turnaround time isn’t horrible, it sure isn’t great, but me personally I have had worse with 6 to 8 weeks turnaround time from other brands. Regular status updates would be nice, but again I also didn’t get those from other companies. So giving a one star rating IMHO is rather unfair, some more constructive feedback would have been better.

Look I sure don’t always defend Nothing, but here I think you are venting too much. You had important photos, videos, music and other data stored on your device - yet don’t have any kind of backup? If you had lost your phone, it got stolen or maybe suffered a fatal drop, your data would also be gone. While it is annoying the phone literally bricked itself overnight, it’s something which again can happen with every kind of electronic device. Just a few years back my mother’s laptop simply refused to work and wouldn’t power on anymore from one day to another. It shouldn’t happen - but it does, that’s the reality and one should at least somehow prepare for such a case regularly if important data is involved.

The whole comment is 100% correct but this, right this here, is dead-accurate to the letter. If someone relies on one single device to hold their files - which is not even a device at some safe spot but it’s being on the move all the time - then those files are (or were once they get lost) simply not important enough to bother backing them up 😐

Edit: Quick Share is wickedly easy to use and it is very fast and convenient, it’s also right there in the phone already; one can install it on their PC and here and there just send important files to their PC. Still not a 100% perfect backup solution but hey, infinitely better than holding all important files at just one’s phone. No cloud needed also.

Blame a company because of stuff you haven’t even saved somewhere else is like “what???”.

My mum has Galaxy. A few times she lost a few albums just randomly, I even can’t imagine how this even happens. Because of this now she has her personal USB where all important stuff sorted. We made it to be sure that family photos won’t get deleted at all. Why rely just on a phone when you also need other places to save important photos and stuff?

Blaming a company for your own mistake and buying other device — looks pretty strange. If I’m gonna delete everything from my phone or even restore it, I won’t blame Nothing because I did this myself! Hope you understand the logic.

I remember when my Phone (2) started bootlooping after the NOS 2.5 update, that sucked. But I had my old phone still and could transfer most of my data, so I got over it.

Do I have a little bit of anxiety before every update now? Yes. Do I know that I should probably back up the stuff I care about too? Also yes. Still, I feel you man, I can’t imagine the frustration you felt from all this. But take it as a valuable lesson, because any phone can brick spontaneously. Hope your 1+ serves you well!
