For the last, almost, two years, I have been using an iPhone 15 Pro Max, after being Android all the way prior to that. I succumbed to iPressure when they finally added USB-C but I have been totally underwhelmed and there are a number of aspects of iOS that really annoy me. As a result, I have been looking for something that excites me since then but nothing has… Until now! Now, Nothing has!
I have been following the Nothing Phone (3) rumours for a while now and nearly went for the Nothing Phone (3A) Pro but held out for the “flagship”. I have to say, I haven’t been so excited about a new phone for years. It may not have the Snapdragon 8 Elite but, in all honesty, who needs that and who will notice the difference? Even gamers don’t need that and most gamers will have a Steam Deck or other gaming handheld/games console or will have a gaming phone and accept the compromised cameras.
I have had various Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, and they are great but I really don’t enjoy One UI. I have also had some of the recent Pixels, with Tensor chips, which also are not considered flagship despite the phones being labelled as such.
Whilst I haven’t yet experienced Nothing OS, I have watched a lot of videos featuring it and many reviewers seem to agree that it is one of the best Android skins out there and I have no doubt the Nothing team has optimised it to work very well with the Phone (3) hardware.
The Glyph Matrix, to my mind, is a more mature version of the Glyph Interface from previous devices. I think we are all falling into the trap of phone addiction and I see couples, sat opposite each in restaurants, and, instead of talking to each other, they are both tapping away on their phones. We are in a really bad social situation; much of which can be attributed to mobile devices. The Glyph Matrix will certainly be useful for me to be less tempted to wake up the screen on my device and the design of the back of the Phone (3) is gorgeous and so needs to be on display and is a welcome departure from the boring designs we have all become numb to.
I have to say, Nothing has done a great job and I eagerly await the arrival of my black Phone (3) 😁
