Well, that’s a great user concept, let’s be honest. Not without a few moments…
- A Dialer app is already exists from community enthusiasts and even in two variants (I’m personally using Voidcaller because it’s usage a bit similar to what I have in One UI, swiping to call, for example). Also for another apps such like notes. So, if these will work properly, then why just not let other know about these apps, maybe let them choose to be installed or not to be installed for those who wish having more Nothing OS looking apps. Because someone would feel really well with just having a stock apps running a single colour theme.
- As for Notes app I really love the way of Samsung Notes that I used for like everything and it was the most comfortable app for everything and even writing massive books. Now the analogs of Notes app in NOS style just not as comfortable to use, but if they just gets a little fix in functionality, then why not? Now I’m running JotterPad for notes and writing content what’s having some strange thing when comes to interaction, but still it’s great to use AND imho this feels a little bit in Nothing style, at least for the font options (remembers those used in a community hehe). And content can be easily moved from phone to phone what I’ve done some times in 2019…
- Also for themes and OS. Maybe we just need that Nothing OS theme for these apps we already have? Like Google did with Messages app on Samsung, for example. So that wouldn’t take much space and still can be accessed from other tech as it’s still a Google apps.
- As for a keyboard app, I wish Google add a swipe language option instead of a button because that’s easier to navigate. And a bit better clipboard that’s not erasing like after 30 minutes and is a bit large than now. Idk maybe team will create Nothing keyboard or Google will change something (what I’m really unsure), but still, I miss Samsung Keyboard.
And let’s be truly honest, but having a native normal moving app is the first thing Nothing needs to work with. I love the way Samsung did it Smart Switch that works in any way (even when phone is million times used) and moves like anything without clouds, Googles and etc. It even moves the way you set your home screen and apps in a folders!!! I swear so much when I had to move my stuff from two Galaxy devices to 3(a), because Android Switch works only once when you setting up a phone, it’s not moving all content and not moving photos. Because of this I had to reboot my new phone just to use Android switch to move something from one of my Galaxy. Not everyone uses Google photos (I remember have them fully disabled on Galaxy cause I use another cloud option), so as for me I just was forced to move them myself wasting all my time, using a laptop, ShareMe app from Xiaomi (it’s a bad experience but did something), and then like watch everything and directly delete from photo to photo to be sure everything’s moved. Especially when having two mobiles to move content from it takes more troubles than a normal usage. Not an experience I’ve expected from a phone! So if Nothing team is works on NOS4, I’d be so great if they put an attention to this point because no sense for me of moving to new Nothing phone and feel that stock moving app “abuse” again, when you can just easily move everything from your mobile to Galaxy, like, for 30 minutes you have a completely set up device with a few things installing in a process, without any clouds and other stuff!🤷🏼♀️ Idk am I really the one who experienced this or someone also feels there needs to be something better??? If team will see this comment I’d be grateful if you try to rethink that moment in NOS🙏🏼 because after 5 years on Samsung I didn’t even know there could even exists a problem with that simple thing and I was like “whaaat???”! I’m surprised like no one in community is talking about this…
Overall I’m just waiting for what the team will cook, cause I’m okay with what it feels now. Sometimes I thought about adding a Nothing-styled emoji or a skin to Google ones, but I guess for those who really wants this there’s a zFont app for example that changes emoji. I used this when I changed a font to my brand font or changed ah emoji on old A71 to a new-looking ones. I still like Samsung emojis better than the Google ones but as for Nothing… I guess that’s not what we need to pay attention for, but create an option to those who’s not happy with that and let then install this… just a thought.
And well, after having a Samsung (the one brand I can compare Nothing rn because that’s the one I used last years) I like how the same 256gb of storage feels really enough for myself than the same 256gb on Z Flip5 where sometimes around 50 gb’s is a system. And after moving to Nothing… like I use most of the stuff that I also have on Samsung (even long tap to cut an object from photo, I was really surprised when I saw my Phone does that and was like “wait, for real???”), not including some small stuff, but Nothing system takes much less space, I guess that says everything… So I’d wish Nothing not to go that Samsung and other brands way (personally I’m not a fan of Chinese stuff and bbk concern) in terms of wasting phone storage for unusable stuff.
And not in OS stuff but I functionality: Phone 3(a) has a bad face recognition. Because UNLOCKING my phone even when I’m not watching on it?! Seriously?! That seems SO dangerous so I with team to improve the way it works. Like for real, everyone could unlock my phone with my face even when I’m sleeping, so for what this unlock needs then?! I’m not using in because of that but I’d like to use it when it’s fixed.
I also turned off AOD because it triggered like every moment. Idk that was a bit annoying so I turned it off even though I’d like to use it if it wasn’t that active from every accidental tap when holding phone in hands. It just drains battery faster in that way.
Just a bit of my thoughts also hehe. I’m not an engineer or programmer, just a regular user that still has a lot of screen time even with monochrome theme 🙂)) I like how essential space is improving, now it able to just save a thing to do without a screen what’s shortly became my favourite thing! So I’m just waiting for a new stuff.
