Do you guys use any third-party apps on your Nothing phone?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been experimenting with my Nothing Phone and was wondering about your experiences with third-party apps. Some people stick strictly to what’s on the Play Store, while others go the sideloading route to try out things like custom launchers, advanced camera tools, or even app stores like Scarlet iOS/AltStore (for those who’ve tinkered on iOS before).

Do you think third-party apps actually improve the Nothing experience, or do they introduce more problems than they solve? Have you found any hidden gems that work especially well with Nothing OS?

Curious to hear how you all approach it—stick with official apps only, or open to experimenting?

avamarie01 I do a mixture of both. I side-loaded essential space onto my CMF1 and got it running. Also, I side loaded NOTHING Gallery on to my CMF1 back in DEC 2024 and have been using it since then. I like N Keyboard and some other stuff not available on the App Store. The same is true of my NP3, I side load a bunch of stuff when I feel like it. I haven’t unlocked either and I haven’t found the need to do so (yet!)

CMF1_hacker That’s a really solid mix. I think that’s the sweet spot—using the Play Store for the basics while sideloading when there’s something genuinely useful that you can’t get officially. Interesting that you’ve had good luck with Essential Space and NOTHING Gallery on the CMF1, I hadn’t considered trying those yet.

On the topic of sideloading, have you ever looked into third-party app stores? On iOS, people often use options like Scarlet iOS or AltStore to get around Apple’s restrictions and load apps that aren’t available on the App Store. Android obviously makes sideloading easier, but I feel like dedicated third-party stores could still be useful for managing updates and keeping apps organized.

Curious if you see any real benefit in going through a store like that versus just sideloading APKs directly.
