I plan to create a CMF mini phone concept. Before I work on it, I thought I should listen to any ideas and suggestions and previous concepts that have caught your eye and details I can add into the product..
Here’s my vision for the product, As previously addressed by Carl, there’s a very high chance that consumers will associate with small products being a downgrade of bigger ones, as such a Nothing Mini phone will be hard to enter the market with even as a direct iPhone mini replacement…
so idea is to enter the market with the exact mindset that it would be a budget phone. I’ve been thinking of concepts where if it was possible to even reuse components from the cmf 2pro or 1 but realistically, we’ll be facing problems like having to relocate the front camera and speaker even if the board’s orientation was to be changed…
The new model will have costs that can’t be avoided, like the custom display, if they are going below 6.3″, if the 6.3″ is even available as off-shelf component… Motherboard, including cables to the lower daughterboard? (charging and main speaker), other components that affect size (speaker and retuning the acoustic properties), Battery, chassis and cover (also add in the cover glass for the display, Gorilla 7i? or the ones on the cmf)
Basically we are looking at a whole new phone even if components were to be directly reused, in which case might as well proceed to make a completely different design.
additionally, I’d like to make the phone thicker, (Yes, it probably won’t be detrimental if its gonna be even smaller). Would be interesting to see an attempt at a phone with replaceable battery (without having to reach for a screw driver like on the retro phones).
A high quality, cheap back cover, plastic injected/molded/3d printed that people wouldn’t have to think twice about having to choose between buying a cover or just using the phone raw, in which case I would like to have the back cover wrap around to the front display.
If possible, add in a 3.5mm jack, but if that’s not just trying to getting the cmf phone 2 pro’s entire specs in a smaller size is a win by itself.
I will attempt two different concepts, but i might not be willing to spend time on the first one considering its just gonna be a miniaturized cmf phone 2 pro, the other concept I have in mind could completely grab the market if the phone’s marketing is done well.
Edit Update 1:
initial draft of the design, with a 5.4″ screen in mind…

there’s nothing in the top right corner, I was just finding a space to put a 3.5mm jack.
The concept Mini looks chaotic, i’m trying to get the corner radiuses down. This is based off the iPhone 13mini size, and some minor adjustments. The Corner radius on the CMF Phone 2 pro as per gemini was 9mm, so bringing it down to 13 mini size roughly translates to 7.7mm??
The specs on the concept mini
processor - Not decided, prolly Dimensity or Snapdragon Gen 7
Camera - 1 main 1/1.2″ Samsung Isocell JNV camera 24mm Focal length. F1.8? i was thinking of the LYT-900 but its overkill and the bump goes to 14mm, with the Samsung one however, we can hit a hair below 12mm. The overall thickness for this model is to be 10~11mm. we have 1 Flash and Triple or Quad mic setup, also thinking of a tiny magnetic attachment for wind supressor ad-on. a Dual LED flash.
A single Flagship level sensor, and enough space for ad-on lenses from 3rd party if you are really into photography, this camera on its own can handle 1x, 2x and maybe 2.5~3x.
3.5mm Jack on top with support for Balance mode (Shanling 3.5mm jack style for audiophiles to get attachments to plug 4.4mm jacks if needed), dual Dac, and enough amps to power a HD600 to a decently loud volume (overvolt the supply)
volume dial on the side, cmf buds 2 pro dial style but much smaller. Was honestly thinking the Headphone 1 dial might be better here, but I’m also trying to pull off a quirky design like the Phone 3 in the CMF language…
I’ll try and get it rendered tomorrow, I need suggestions for Volume dial.
Yes, the Volume dial is a very important part of my concept, so I won’t be letting the idea go, but I’m open to other ways of implementing the dial…
I once thought of a corner dial, but that’s a bit counter intuitive for the camera, if I tried to make a zoom control out of the dial…
the dial on the corner is a very interesting concept in my head. I was imagining MX Master mouse type ratcheting scroll, and flick to infinite scroll. Would make it an awesome fidget spinner. You could also use the dial to measure surface lengths of say a shelf, a wall or a window. So let’s call that, Dial Toy…
you could use it as a scratch disk in a DJ app maybe…
Edit update 2: I’m trying to work in the screws into my concept so I’m going off the official renders to determine the screws, but I’m having a hard time figuring out the size if it is really 5.3mm in the render.
I also work with Gemini, but I know for a fact its definitely wrong saying that they’re using 2.8mm (which should be the body, not the head), or its just custom screws in there.

Can anyone help me confirm the size?
Also, there will be 2 concepts. The Lite version, which is basically a miniaturized CMF Phone 1, the 2 is a take on a flagship killer version that could give the Poco F7 pro like phones a run for its money.
