I’ve been using a review unit of Nothing Headphones 1 over the last month and it’s time to give my thoughts!
I’m going to keep this review simple and easy to read so it doesn’t read too long, I wanted to quickly thank Nothing for sending these out for the month for me to use and construct my thoughts on these! I’ve been utilizing these headphones on both my phones and my PC.
On the phone, it’s really nice having the Nothing X app to fine tune every audio setting I could imagine, however I will say they are definitely on the quiet side compared to other headphones I’ve tried, at least wirelessly. This is even with an external equalizer app turned all the way up on top of Nothing X’s more bass tuning which is typically much louder than custom tuning the expanded equalizer settings. This left me slightly disappointed simply because I do listen to music on high volumes and I tried different devices to no avail (although Phone 3 is marginally louder).
However, the story changes once you swap the device over to PC. I connected these to my gaming desktop, turned on Dolby Access and played a plethora of games from Silent Hill: F to all sorts of genres of music on Spotify. I was blown away once I set up Dolby Access on these. They truly came to life. No distortion at all, rich audio, clean highs, mids, and lows while being nice, punchy and loud. The world of Ebisugaoka for instance truly came to life once I utilized these headphones on Silent Hill: F. I normally main Hyper X Cloud 2 wireless headphones for all my PC needs and was very pleased to note that these are far better in every category. The ANC is great on these and the Transparency mode is even better, rivaling my Airpods Max headphones and is much better than my Ear 2024’s transparency mode as well.
Overall, I would say I’m extremely pleased with the PC usability of these headphones. The roller is also nice and intuitive to raise and lower the volume on the fly from right to left; and the paddle is nice and easy to utilize, with distinct clicks and holds to skip tracks and fast forward/rewind, etc. I would definitely grab these whenever they have a sale and would say my only cons are the more muted volume on mobile devices as well as the case using a zipper that could be swapped out for a better mechanism. Other than that, if you use these headphones mainly at home and have a PC. Load up Dolby Access, tweak the audio as you like and be blown away by them! Easy 8/10 for me!
