Akis Moving forward, on select non-flagship devices, we’ll start including a carefully considered selection of third-party partner apps
Oof. I’ve bought all three “flagship” devices, a couple of pairs of earphones and the “non-flagship” 2a as my son’s first phone, as well as recommending the “non-flagship” 2a Pro and CMF Phone 2 Pro to parents of my son’s friends for them.
Would I have bought or recommended them knowing this was coming? No. Absolutely not. Not a chance. Yes, I’m aware it’s common among other brands, but you know what? I chose your brand because it DIDN’T.
This is a slippery slope. Take the Instagram example you cited for example. I don’t have it (or ANY Meta apps) on my devices, and sure as hell don’t want it on my son’s phone.
Once again you’ve been caught with your pants down and this feels a lot like the kiosk / fake photo debacle with a hastily put together excuse to try and get ahead of the backlash.
I’m currently 8 devices deep invested in the Nothing “ecosystem” and I’m fully prepared to move on over this, even if my Phone 3 is unaffected I don’t want crap added to my son’s device, regardless of what you think “most” users install.
I don’t care how "carefully curated ' you think your choices are, the only people who get to curate my son’s app library are his parents. I’ll be watching this closely, as I’m sure the Android commentators, tech media and all of your existing customers will be too.
