Hello Nothing Community, I’m using my NP (2) again after a trip to the (3), which I returned because of the annoying Essential Key. About three months ago, my wife also switched to Nothing; she now uses a (3a), previously she had a Mi 13. Unfortunately, this really annoying Essential Key is also present here. According to customer service, they are working on an update that will allow you to remap the button or disable it completely. Unfortunately, nothing has happened to date. Disabling the Essential Space app didn’t help either. I don’t want to interfere with the software externally or use a third-party app like Button Remapper, but apparently, Nothing support isn’t doing anything. My wife is so annoyed with the 3a that she’d like to sell it right away, and I’m slowly running out of arguments to convince her to keep it.
First, there’s the problem with the Essential Key. It’s in an impossible location, and my wife accidentally triggers it several times a day. There’s no solution in sight. Integrating a remapping function into the software and releasing it as an update can’t be a problem, but it’s not happening. Nothing seems to want to change anything. Second problem: the display is overwhelmed when using tempered glass (we’ve tested various models, Spigen, etc.). As soon as you try to scroll up and down along the edge, the display is overwhelmed and suggests swiping rather than tapping, opening apps or articles in the browser. I’ve already reduced the sensitivity in the settings and played with the Hz settings, but it doesn’t change anything. With tempered glass, the display goes crazy.
And finally, the Glyph isn’t fully functional. My wife is used to having a notification and reminder LED on her previous Xiaomi, which, for example, shows her that she has a new, unread message or a missed call. I thought that would be possible with Glyph, too. Unfortunately, Glyph doesn’t offer a reminder function; it flashes once after a message, but not again after that. There doesn’t seem to be any kind of notification repeat or reminder function. Or did I configure something wrong? Basically, my wife wants the Glyph to remind her of a missed call or unread message every five minutes, so she doesn’t have to look at the display every time she has the phone on silent or it’s been left unattended for a while.
The phone is great, the display looks great, the camera is very good, and the battery is fantastic. But these three things annoy my wife so much that she’d rather get rid of the phone. And I understand her. I switched back to the (2) after only 4 days of using my (3), just because of the Essential Key. Does anyone here have any advice? Shouldn’t it be that difficult to integrate a timer/reminder function into the Glyph software so that Glyph reminds you of unread messages every x minutes? And this completely stupidly placed Essential Key must be remapable without any third-party software?
