JeffreyLeon Then you simply didn't do your research prior purchasing your phone:
Every manufacturer, at least every decent one, is stating on their product pages how the update policy for each an every individual product looks like, in particular when it comes to smartphones and tablets. For quite a lot of people, especially those who tend to keep their phone not just for two or three years, but rather four years or more, an extensive update policy is can be a valid reason to purchase certain products - or vice versa staying away from them.
In terms of Nothing Phone (1), the company always was transparent and clear about it:
3 major Android updates, 4 years of security updates.
Nothing Phone (1) launched with Android 12 back in summer 2022. Nothing updated it with Android 13 (OS 2.0), Android 14 (OS 2.5) and last Android 15 (OS 3.0). Three major Android version updates - just as they always clearly stated on their product website, their faq and was even mentioned in almost every single product review of this phone. In terms of security updates, just two months ago, Nothing re-assured all Phone (1) users they will stick to their policy and will keep rolling out security updates until summer 2026 - so they are also fulfilling the second part of their policy, by ending security update support four years after the product released.
I really don't get why people complain about something which was clearly visible everywhere. If Nothing would now simply start extending support out of goodwill, they are opening pandora's box by users of all their phones demanding extensions of the update policy of their phones:
For Nothing Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1, Android 16 (OS 4.0) will be their last Android update. If the company extended support for NP1 owners, why not for them? Next year they'll be demanding Android 17 and will point out back to 2025 when Nothing would have supplied a goodwill policy extension for NP1 users. If they got one, why shouldn't loyal NP2 and CMF1 owners get one!? Rinse and repeat pretty much every year and every major Android version since with other smartphones reaching the end of their major version policy.
Nothing just recently improved their update policy somewhat for this year's line-up, with the Phone (3a) series getting six years of security updates (until 2031), yet staying true to just three major Android versions (up to Android 18). For Nothing Phone (3), they further increased it to more competetive flagship levels, offering seven years of security updates (until 2032) and five major Android versions (up to Android 20).
AbiS_MjZL72iTVk Now you are mixing things up. The update policy is stated in the tech and feature set of each and every Nothing and CMF smartphone. It is something they officially stated in their faq / customer help service. The "clean software, no bloatware" never was included there and just mentioned by Carl Pei - that's something completely different, even for legal terms, then having it clearly mentioned on the feature and spec sheet.
