I purchased Watch Pro 2 just 10 days back. Love the overall hardware design, the looks. Interface is simple and intuitive. The big issue is with watch faces, and due to that I am regretting that I bought this.
The whole point of smartwatches is that they gather ton of interesting data and show it on their watch faces. And again, since its a screen there can be a vast variety of interesting watch faces. Seems this isn’t what CMF designers think. The watch faces available in the app are funky and interesting looking yes, but once you take a closer look you understand that they lack any sort of substance.
Here are few biggest issues with watch faces available for watch pro 2 model
1. Lack of professional looking watch faces:
Too many funky, geeky types designs. There aren’t too many simple ones showing day-date, some simple metric like step-count, calory burn.
2. Useless analog designs:
There are more than 40 Analog watch faces in the collections. None of them have any interesting metric to display. Most barely even show day-date!! Out of those 40 bare 2 or 3 show info like battery, calory burn. But any single of them. And even in them there’s no customization provided.
3. Inconsistent confusing customizations
When I saw in reviews that this watch has a cool feature of watch face customization like color and function I was thrilled. But on actual usage I can see that very very few watches have both color and function change available. The default watch face “Slope Time” only allows function change. Then again across watch faces function change are also different. Some allow stepcount, calorie, distance etc. Others only allow calorie and battery, no stepcount or distance or heartrate.
Most watch faces actually dont allow to show stepcount! Which I believe is the most frequently checked metrics from any smart watch user. Which watch face will allow which function customization is a total guesswork. I need to download every watch face and see what is allowed in that one.
4.. No user made watch face support
Many other brands expose APIs or tools to create our own watch faces. This one doens’t. There’s one option in the app. But it is only limited to selecting custom background and position of time and date display. No analog option available, no metric choice available as well. What a waste!
See some of these great watch faces. But all of these suffer from the problems mentioned above. Most show only calorie count. Some show heart beat. None of this is useful to me. I need to see battery and step-count. Why the heck can you not allow it to be customized to see that???
It is a crying shame that CMF is not paying attention to this basic issue. Functional and cool watch faces is the fundamental feature of a smart watch and Watch Pro 2 is missing exactly that.
