Problem Description
The Nothing Music Widget does not work with YouTube Music, even though YouTube Music itself plays audio normally in the background and notifications work.
Music plays correctly inside the YouTube Music app
Playback controls and song info appear correctly in the notification panel
But the Nothing Music Widget does not show any song info, controls, or stays inactive
Troubleshooting Already Tried (No Success)
Cleared all data & cache of:
Nothing Launcher
Nothing Widgets (default app)
Rebooted the device multiple times
Removed and re-added the widget
Verified background activity & battery optimization (not restricted)
Spotify works perfectly with the same Nothing Music Widget on the same device
➡️ This confirms:
The widget is working
The launcher is working
The OS is working
The issue is specific to YouTube Music integration
Expected Behavior
The Nothing Music Widget should:
Detect YouTube Music playback
Display song title, artist, and controls
Update in real time (same as Spotify)
Actual Behavior
Widget does not recognize YouTube Music playback at all
No song info / controls appear
Widget remains blank or inactive
Conclusion
This appears to be a compatibility or media session integration issue between YouTube Music and Nothing OS Music Widget on Android 16 (Nothing OS 4.0).
After that I talked with youtube music help community as well ….see what they replied…
What I researched :-
API / Integration issue
Nothing’s Music Widget uses the system-level player API.
Spotify exposes this API properly.
YouTube Music provides only partial or inconsistent support.
Result:
Spotify → widget = ✅ works perfectly
YouTube Music → widget = ❌ broken / blank / not updating
