The Situation:
I am formally reporting that the stable update to Nothing OS 4.0 (Android 16) on the CMF Phone 2 Pro (Build: Galaga-B4.0-251218-2326-IND) is fundamentally broken. Despite a full factory reset, the device remains in a non-functional state with critical security and UI bugs that a reset simply cannot fix.
1. Hidden Bloatware: “appservices” (AURA)
A hidden system app named “appservices” (also known as AURA) has been added silently without mention in the changelog.
Intrusive Behavior: It sends “Complete your device setup” notifications that lead to a screen full of third-party apps and games it wants to install.
Deceptive Design: The app is hidden from the App Drawer and the standard App List unless you toggle “Show System” in settings. This is a massive step back from the clean, transparent OS experience Nothing promised.
2. Play Protect Certification Failure (Critical)
The device is currently failing all Play Integrity API checks (Basic, Device, and Strong Integrity).
Impact: The Play Store shows “Device is not certified,” which blocks banking apps, Google Pay, and Netflix.
Cause: This stable build is incorrectly flagged as uncertified, likely due to a firmware signature mismatch.
3. Severe Camera Regressions & Metadata Bugs
Color Shifting & Lag: There is a heavy, jarring color shift and significant lag when switching between the 1x and 2x lenses.
Quality Drop: Massive detail loss on the 2x telephoto lens and significantly reduced front camera quality compared to OS 3.0.
Megapixel Reporting Bug: 50MP photos report as 58.2 MP with watermark ON, or 50.1/50.3 MP with it OFF. The ultra-wide correctly shows 8MP.
4. Broken Battery UI & System Lag
Battery Glitch: The home screen is stuck at a false 100%, while the notification shade shows the actual percentage (e.g., 50%). The number only “jumps” to correct levels when plugged in.
Refresh Rate Bug: The notification shade and settings menus often feel locked to 60Hz, with touch inputs sometimes forcing a drop from 120Hz to 60Hz.
Input Delay: There is a 1-2 second delay when pressing the power button to turn off the screen, making the device feel like it has “hanged”.
5. Non-Functional Feedback Tool
Crucially, the Tips & Feedback tool in Settings is unusable because the “Feedback category” section is completely blank, preventing users from even reporting these bugs officially from the device.
Conclusion:
This update is unoptimized and unfinished. We demand an immediate hotfix patch to restore device integrity, remove unannounced bloatware, and fix the broken UI synchronization.
