Hi everyone,
I’m using a Nothing Phone (3) with Glyph Matrix and trying to set up an Essential Notification rule for my work WhatsApp group.
Goal:
• Show a specific Glyph Matrix icon only when I’m mentioned in a particular WhatsApp group chat.
• For all other messages in that group, I don’t want the Essential Notification to trigger.
Current setup:
• App: WhatsApp
• Conversation: my work group
• Essential Notification icon: custom icon in Glyph Matrix
• Keywords tried: @you , @Krish , @Guru , @guru , @krish , Guru , guru , Krish , krish, @You
Observed behavior:
• If no keywords are set, the icon shows correctly for every message in that group (so the rule itself works).
• As soon as I add any keyword, the rule basically stops working for mentions:
• Messages where I’m tagged in the group do not trigger the Essential Notification.
• It looks like the system isn’t matching the mention text at all.
What I’m trying to understand:
• How exactly does the Essential Notification keyword matching work for WhatsApp notifications?
• Do WhatsApp @mentions not appear as plain text in the notification body, so the keyword system can’t see them?
• Is there any recommended keyword format (with/without @ , exact contact name vs. phone number, etc.) that has worked for anyone to detect mentions?
• Or is this a current limitation/bug, meaning @mention-based Essential Notifications are not possible right now?
Environment:
• Nothing Phone (3)
• Glyph Matrix enabled
• Latest stable Nothing OS 4.0 (at time of posting)
• WhatsApp up to date from Play Store
If this is a known limitation, it would be helpful to know officially. If there’s a specific workaround (e.g., special keyword format, known pattern WhatsApp uses in notifications, or any setting I’m missing), I’d really appreciate guidance.
Thanks!
