Hello everyone!
A few months ago, when Nothing announced they were working toward an AI-focused OS, a lot of us got excited and started throwing around ideas about how it should look and feel. Back then, I shared a slightly wild thought: What if Nothing built their own Linux-based OS (something like Mobian) and then layered their design language and experience on top of it, the way Apple did with macOS and iOS?
At the time, it felt… ambitious. Maybe even unrealistic.
But lately? New tech has made me weirdly hopeful.
Today I came across a video of a phone that can run Android, Linux, and even Windows — all on a mid-range Qualcomm chip. The company behind it (called Nex, for those curious) built a portable solution where the phone works as a normal smartphone and transforms into a desktop when connected to a monitor. Super cool already.
What really blew my mind though?
They’ve ported and built their own Linux OS for it.
Now here’s the interesting part: this isn’t a company known for building operating systems or smartphones. Yet they pulled it off.
So if they can do it… I honestly believe Nothing could too.
This post is basically me feeling excited and hopeful. Nothing’s tagline is “Make tech fun again” and what’s more fun than a computer in your pocket that truly blurs the line between phone and desktop?
I’m not sure if sharing links or videos here is allowed, so I’ll leave that to you all. If you’re curious, a quick Google search will point you in the right direction.
Really hoping Nothing either explores something like this — or even collaborates with the Linux ecosystem and brings it to life with Nothing’s design language and philosophy.
Fingers crossed. 🤞
Would love to hear what you all think.
P.S. Most current Nothing phones, including mine, still use USB 2.0, so no wired external monitor support. Really hoping future mid-range Nothing phones come with USB 3.x + display output… that alone would unlock some seriously fun possibilities. 🤞
